Rahm Emanuel Declares Chicago 'a Trump-Free Zone'

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Tuesday that Rahmaland will continue to welcome "Dreamers" despite President Trump’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivalsprogram.

“To all the Dreamers that are here in this room, and in the city of Chicago, you are welcomed in the city of Chicago. This is your home and you have nothing to worry about,” Emanuel said in a prepared statement.

“Chicago, our schools, our neighborhoods, our city, as it relates to what President Trump said, will be a Trump-free zone. You have nothing to worry about,” Emanuel continued.

Good for Rahm. Is this a bit of Federal order nullification?

  1. Nice! A rare victory for freedom in Chicago.

  2. How much is this going to cost taxpayers in Chicago, Cook County, Near by counties, and all of Illinois?

    1. How much would it cost them to allow the federal government to further artificially limit the pool of individuals from which they're allowed to hire?

    2. The perfect answer to that is: that's THEIR problem.

    3. Except it isn't their problem, under the current structure it's our (Illinois taxpayers) problem and socializing the cost of doing business doesn't come out a net gain. Taxes for everything from welfare programs to more schools and programs to more government employees* to infrastructure doesn't make up for it. A taxpayer will spend thousands more in taxes and get very little in wage savings passed on. Furthermore a taxpayer can choose not to buy or buy less of whatever it is that cost a little more without the influx of labor. With most of the taxation he doesn't have that choice.

*(Over 1/3 of which in Chicago make over a $100K and then there's their pensions)

    4. @Jimmy Joe Meeker

Those are some great arguments against taxation and government spending, but not for banning people from working.

    5. I did not discuss banning people from working. My question was how much is this (Rahm's plan) going to cost us (taxpayers in Chicago and the rest of Illinois)? Rahm knows this move will mean more government jobs because of more demand for so-called government services. That means higher taxes and more for Rahm and his friends to control and do. More city jobs, contracts, and perks to hand out to the connected and loyal. The median city job pays $93K a year. It's a losing battle at the low wage end of the spectrum to bring more people in and pay those kind of city salaries to provide services. Everyone else then has to pay more to make up the difference. Taxation and government spending are baked into this pie. So how much is this going to cost?

I don't care about banning anyone from working, I care about labor costs being socialized on the taxapayers. Without that employers would have to pay more. Without all these government services and still low pay it would not as attractive to come to cold Chicago from sunny Mexico. It would be cheaper to hire fewer more productive people. Less demand for "services". Less for Rahm and the rest to tax for. More people making enough to pay their load.

    6. Re: Jimmy Joe Meeker,

Labor costs are not socialized on the taxpayer.

─ Without all these government services and still low pay it would not as attractive to come to cold Chicago from sunny Mexico. ─

You have NO clue of what you talk about. Immigrants don't uproot themselves for welfare payments, but to trade their labor where it commands a higher value. That's called "Commerce", if you're interested to know.

─ It would be cheaper to hire fewer more productive people. ─

The above shows a shameful and even irresponsible lack of understanding of basic economics. If it were true that it is cheaper to higher more productive people except at a higher wage, then it should be much cheaper to operate a restaurant or any other service-oriented business in $12-per-hour Seattle (soon to be $15-per-hour) than in downtown Houston.

  3. Dreamer supporters should google Carlos Ruben Rodriguez. He is a DACA illegal who recently murdered a 24 yr old mother in Naples, FL. What about her dreams?

    1. I heard a person who voted for Trump killed someone. By your logic we should deport all Trump voters including you.

    3. Even if you do not care about the murder of a fellow American, and even if you allow an idee fixe to lower the value of this blog, you have to ask "did importing Carlos Ruben Rodriguez bring us closer to a libertarian society?"

  4. Unfortunately, these people will not learn the lesson that decentralization is a good thing. They just want different people in charge at the top.

  5. If the mayoral race between him and Chuy Garcia is any indication, Rahm is going to piss off a bunch of entitled liberal blacks and its going to be hilarious. On a serious note if Rahm is actually going to go through with this and isnt just grandstanding he should you know give people guns.

  8. Apparently you are all under the impression that Mayor Rahm is the private owner of all Chicago's streets, buildings and businesses. Bunch of libwaps.
