The group, ACT! for America, held a nationwide march yesterday.
The press release from the organization implied some kind of Sharia law threat to the United States:
This is a march against Sharia law and for human rights. Our nation is built on the freedom of religion – a pillar of our democracy – which we must always respect, protect, and honor. However many aspects of Sharia law run contrary to basic human rights and are completely incompatible with our laws and our democratic values.ACT! for America apparently has such a large following that it did generate turnouts yesterday for protests in most large American cities. It also generated
did generate turnouts yesterday for protests in most large American cities. It also generated counter protests from the Antifa.
ACT!, according to The New York Times, gains its following "on three rather religious and partisan streams in American politics: evangelical Christian conservatives, hard-line defenders of Israel (both Jews and Christians) and Tea Party Republicans."
It is run by Brigitte Gabriel, a Lebanese American.
She presents a portrait of Islam so thoroughly bent on destruction and domination that it is unrecognizable to those who study or practice the religion. She has found a receptive audience among Americans who are legitimately worried about the spread of terrorism...Ms. Gabriel has given hundreds of lectures, including to the Heritage Foundation and the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va.In February 2017, she said that she provided a "national security briefing" to President Trump. She met with him at the White House in March 2017.
She is holding a major conference in Washington D.C. in October.
There is an awful lot going on in this country from both the left and the right that has nothing to do with shrinking government, and thus has little to do with libertarianism. They are not against central power, they want to be in control of the central power.
According to its website, Act! advocates such central power themed activities as:
Empowering Women & Protecting Children
Support for Israel
