Early indications are that Moon garnered more than 41 per cent of the vote, defeating his two main rivals — Hong Joon-pyo, a conservative, and Ahn Cheol-soo, a centrist.
The plus comes in the fact that Moon is the son of North Korean refugees and has outlined a twin-track approach of increasing pressure on Pyongyang while leaving the door open for engagement.
