TSA Warns Local Police About Its New Airport Pat-Downs

Welcome to Trump World.

Bloomberg reports:
The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has declined to say exactly where—and how—employees will be touching air travelers as part of the more invasive physical pat-down procedure it recently ordered.

But the agency does expect some passengers to consider the examination unusual. In fact, the TSA decided to inform local police in case anyone calls to report an “abnormal” federal frisking, according to a memo from an airport trade association obtained by Bloomberg News. The physical search, for those selected to have one, is what the agency described as a more “comprehensive” screening, replacing five separate kinds of pat-downs it previously used.

Libertarian Trump fanboys are welcome to leave comments explaining why this is "not going on under the Trump administration," and is really the NSA going rogue.

  1. There were a number of ribald comments on this over at Zero Hedge, and a lot of them suggested going "Full Milo" on the friskers. "Oooh Aaah, don't stop!!" being the drift.

  2. Is this the type of "freedom" I defended while serving in the greatest military force in the history of the universe?

  3. This policy is hardcore anti-libertarian. However, the article didn't say anything about Trump. This clearly came from TSA in response to an audit which ripped their performance. It's just now being rolled out because that's how slow and stupid government is.

"The change is partly a result of the agency’s study of a 2015 report that criticized aspects of TSA screening procedures. That audit, by the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General, drew headlines because airport officers had failed to detect handguns and other weapons. An additional change prompted by the report was the TSA's decision to end its “managed inclusion” program, by which some everyday travelers were allowed to use PreCheck lanes to speed things up at peak times."

Also, a Denver TSA agent was investigated by Denver police in 2014 after a woman said he had searched her too hard. The decision to report this new hard search policy to local PDs is likely a response to that embarrassing episode.

Hopefully the American people make some noise about this and Trump listens and rolls back the TSA.

Unfortunately for that hope, this sounds like one of the questions Mark Dice might ask on his show. "Do you think TSA should be able to give cavity searches randomly to stop terrorism?" "Yeah, I mean definitely. We need to be protected from terrorists."

    1. They made noise under Obama's first term and nothing came from it, nothing will changed under the "law and order" Trump

  4. Trump isn't really in control of the government at all. The managerial state is in control, and Trump is a figurehead, as Americans are finding out.

Sad that your Trump Derangement Syndrome has closed your eyes, Wenzel. It's a real pity.

    1. This reminds me of one time in Wisconsin where the Department of Natural Resources murdered a baby deer to the outrage of the entire state. The DNR policy was to eliminate deer that potentially carried Chronic Wasting Disease. The public only cared about that bloodied up Bambie. When the public outrage reached Gov. Walker's desk - he acted right quick and told the DNR to change the policy immediately.

The outrage in this instance would have to come from rednecks, farmers, working Joes, housewives and be denounced by military, law enforcement, airplane personnel and security experts. It's unfair to expect Trump to take on the TSA and AFSCME without populist backup from the angry public and intellectual backing from experts in the field.

And we know this policy had nothing to do with Trump, because if it had the media would be dragging this new enhanced pat-down system through the mud while plastering Trump's name all over it.

  5. Trump can make change if we give him a chance!!!
Trump isn't in control at all!! Don't blame him!!

I guess I can no longer take my family on a flight.

No pervert, government stooge or not, will touch my sons or daughters.
If they would touch them in a sexual way, I will kill them.
    Simple.
So, best not put anyone in the situation at all.

Sorry if I'm not Libertarian in my thinking.

In Some things, you must fight.

Death really isn't the worst of things.

Allowing perverts to handle and touch our daughters and sons, well, if you allow it, and do nothing, "crouch down and lick the hand which feeds you. We ask not for your council, or your arms. May your chains set lightly upon you; and let posterity never say you were our countrymen."
Even NAP Libertarians, you would think, have a point to where they will take a stand.
    But I doubt it.
They will spend too much time having Intellectual debates on it. Most never having actually spent time in the real life trenches of life. Or applying their economic theory to real life economy.
I wait to see real anger.

    *twittle my thumbs*

    1. Families can still go through the old metal detectors with no pat down or naked body machine. Because terrorists wouldn't hide guns in their kids' clothing?

If it makes you feel any better the TSA agents (some of them anyway) don't like fondling people of the same sex either. They had this provision written into their CBA:

"Management will consider for award recognition bargaining unit employee contributions such as language skills or employee flexibility in support of operational challenges such as same-sex gender pat-downs and other screening requirements consistent with this Article."

  6. Some significant changes for the worse leading up to this one were made when Obama was still in office, but we're supposed to ignore that.

The nature of the state of is getting a lot of cover with Trump. It's not the government, the institution, it's natural progressions, that are bad, it's just the man, Trump.

It's getting so that if one doesn't want to be labeled a Trump fanboy/supporter/apologist he should refrain from criticizing the state as an institution and focus on Trump and his minions.

Trump should be used as an "I told you so" lesson of the hazards of government power. That there is no such thing as "just the right people" and what actually happens is "just the wrong people". But instead the focus is on how bad Trump is. Great, reinforce the statist idea that it will all work if just the right people run things.

I am seeing people complain about things that were established years to decades ago as if they are first hearing about them because of Trump. They think they are new with Trump. I try to reinforce that is the state that was built. That this is the institution as it is supposed to and has been functioning. We have this brief moment not to be dismissed as paranoid conspiracy theorists. Why not use it? Transfer their distrust of Trump to where it should be, to the state. If it stays with Trump it dies when his time in office comes to an end.
