REPORT Peter Thiel Considering Run for California Governor

Peter Thiel, the Silicon Valley billionaire and top Donald Trump adviser, is considering a 2018 bid for California governor, reports Politico.

It is expected to be a crowded Republican field with a sizable number of business-minded political outsiders to wage 2018 bids for office.

In addition to self-funding, Thiel, would most certainly have the backing of Trump.

Thiel has stated he is a libertarian, a claim I am suspicious of.

Thiel is co-founder of Palantir, a data-mining company that has wide-ranging contracts with federal agencies — that include the Department of Homeland Security, the Defense Department, and the Central Intelligence Agency.

The report in Politico appears to be a planned leak to test the waters.

  1. Thiel is a libertarian like the Koch Brothers are libertarians.
But considering the kind of people that run California now, Thiel can only be a massive improvement.

  2. A Republican in California = A fart in a hurricane.
I was truly shocked when I looked at my daughter's sample ballot and saw the choice for Senator to replace Boxer (D) was between two democrats.

  3. I am certain that Peter Theil is a lot more like himself than he is like the Koch brothers. I agree with other skeptical folks in observing that saying one is libertarian is one thing, being a libertarian unfortunately can easily be something else.
The most impressive angle on his possible libertarianism would be what Politico noted quote At one point, Thiel said, perhaps jokingly, that he’d be “fine” with California seceding. unquote.
It is hard to dislike any elected official that is willing to give secession its just due. However I still remember Rick Perry from years ago being open to the idea but one can hardly tell now.
