Putin Invites All Children of US Diplomats in Russia to the New Year and Christmas Children’s Parties in the Kremlin

Statement by the President of Russia in response to Obama's new sanctions including the expulsion of diplomats:
December 30, 2016 15:15

We regard the recent unfriendly steps taken by the outgoing US administration as provocative and aimed at further weakening the Russia-US relationship. This runs contrary to the fundamental interests of both the Russian and American people. Considering the global security responsibilities of Russia and the United States, this is also damaging to international relations as a whole.

As it proceeds from international practice, Russia has reasons to respond in kind. Although we have the right to retaliate, we will not resort to irresponsible ‘kitchen’ diplomacy but will plan our further steps to restore Russian-US relations based on the policies of the Trump Administration.

The diplomats who are returning to Russia will spend the New Year’s holidays with their families and friends. We will not create any problems for US diplomats. We will not expel anyone. We will not prevent their families and children from using their traditional leisure sites during the New Year’s holidays. Moreover, I invite all children of US diplomats accredited in Russia to the New Year and Christmas children’s parties in the Kremlin.

It is regrettable that the Obama Administration is ending its term in this manner. Nevertheless, I offer my New Year greetings to President Obama and his family.

My season’s greetings also to President-elect Donald Trump and the American people.

I wish all of you happiness and prosperity.

  1. Great. In the eyes of the new US mini-true, my desire for happiness and prosperity in the new year probably makes me an "unwitting tool of Russian propaganda." You can't win for trying these days.

  2. I will remember Obama in his closing days as petty and spiteful. What is more petty than Obama claiming he could beat Trump in a reelection? What is more spiteful and mean-spirited than "spanking" the Russians for allegedly
manipulating the election while offering no facts to the American people to back that claim, and doing it during the Christmas season when he could at least pay superficial homage to the idea of peace on earth good will toward man and wait until after the holidays are over.

Putin has shown himself to be the better statesman.

  3. If you can bear this pun: This is what's known as "class" warfare.

  4. Putin could not possible have done better in making Obama look like a complete loser. This is how you respond, by showing yourself to be above such clear and transparant provocations and be the better man.
And why should he care anyway? The diplomats are expulsed by the leaving loser. They can basically take a paid vacation until Trump get into the White house.
