OMG Trump Picks Another General

Donald Trump has picked Gen. John Kelly to run the Department of Homeland Security, CBS News reports.

Kelly makes the third General to be named to Trump's incoming staff.

Trump has picked the insane Lt. General Michael Flynn to be his National Security Advisor and nominated General James "Nad Dog" Mattis for Secretary of Defense.

To all but the blind, it is clear that Trump will be much more aggressive than  President Obama with military actions overseas but the appointment of Kelly increases my fear that ultimately we will see federal government crackdowns domestically.

Kelly was the commander of U.S. Southern Command until earlier this year. In that posting, he oversaw American military operations in South America and Central America.

According to CBS, like Mattis, Kelly is a Marine with a reputation for bluntness.

  1. I'm in agreement with your assessment that Trump has the potential to be worse than Hillary. I don't agree that having generals as department heads makes that department any more or less likely to be militaristic. Lifetime civilians Cheney & Rumsfeld didn't make the DoD a friendlier organization.

    1. Totally agree. And, although there are definitely exceptions, and these two generals may well be that, often generals are less likely to engage in war as they've seen it up front and personally. Back in my military industrial complex days, I knew some very high-level generals who were against the Kuwaiti invasion (but could not speak out publicly, of course). I have found that military people, in general, are less likely to promote war over the civilian chickenhawk neocons.

  2. Deep State/military"soft" coup with Trump as figurehead? All of these appointments seem kind of "Turkish." It will be interesting to see who is really calling the shots come Jan 20th.
