Jesse Benton Expected to Get Jail Time

Ron Paul Inc operatives Jesse Benton and John Tate are scheduled to be sentenced today in a Des Moines federal court. A third operative, Dimitri Kesari, is scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow.

The three were convicted of covering up under the table payments to induce a  Michelle Bachmann operative to switch his support to Ron Paul during the 2012 Republican presidential primary season.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, the men are all expected to get prison time.

 Benton will be sentenced first at 1 p.m. Central Time, followed by Tate at 3 p.m.

According to the Des Mines Register, both Benton and Tate's defense lawyers have already asked presiding U.S. District Judge John Jarvey to release the operatives on appeal bonds if the judge decides to impose prison sentences. Benton will be sentenced first at 1 p.m., followed by Tate at 3 p.m.
