Walter Block Considering Leaving the U.S. If Hillary Clinton Becomes President

Given Dr. Walter Block's view that a Hillary Administration might lead the U.S to nuclear war with Russia, I asked Dr. Block a question. Here is the exchange that took place.

A good question. An excellent question. Yes, I have been thinking of Australia or New Zealand. Both are far away, and unlikely to be bombed in any such conflagration. I've been thinking about this not only for me and my wife, but also for my son (who is a computer nerd and can earn a living anywhere) my daughter in law, and my grandsons. My daughter is much more geographically fixed.

Now, let me turn this very excellent question in your direction. If Donald wins, are you likely to emigrate? Have you thought about that?

Hi Walter,

I always have one eye on the goings on of the U.S. government , given the current lack of respect for liberty in the United States. 

Although I plan no immediate emigration from the United States upon the election of  Trump or Clinton , there are scenarios under which I would leave.

For example, I don't doubt that martial law could be declared by either with a crackdown on radical writers, given the right set of circumstances developing. If I saw martial law clouds on the horizon with a specific threat to writers,  it would cause me to jump on a plane very fast.

I  see strict martial law as a greater real threat at this time rather than a nuclear confrontation but I don't rule out the nuclear threat. As I say, my guard is up.

Recognizing the problems with assigning probabilities in case situations, just to give you a sense of the level of my concern and the likelihood that I depart the U.S., I throw out these numbers. I would say the likelihood of my departing the U.S. is 9.5% under a Hillary presidency and 10% under Trump.

Would it be fair to characterize your concern levels and likelihood of your leaving the U.S. as near 100% under Hillary and 0% under Trump?
