Trump's Top Senate Supporter Calls for Increased Defense Spending by NATO

Sens. Jeff Sessions, Trump's top supporter in the Senate, and Mike Lee, both members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, sent a letter to President Obama Tuesday stating that the viability of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is contingent upon a more equitable distribution of the collective defense burden, and requesting that this be a top priority of the administration at next month’s NATO Summit in Warsaw.

“In lieu of giving our highly capable European allies a crutch of defense aid for years to come, we must begin making this aid contingent upon real investment from their governments starting with adjustments to their national budgets now.”

Note well, this is a call for European members to be pay a larger portion of the tab, rather than an outright call to end NATO.

This is completely in line with Trump's view, although I have seen on many libertarian web sites the statement that Trump wants to outright dissolve NATO. Not so.

Consider the fact that Trump is not like Chauncey Gardiner whose simpleminded musings are interpreted to mean whatever the listener wishes them to mean. At least that would justify the admiration these paleo-libertarians have for the guy. But this is not the case; Trump is a big-time charlatan playing a con game on the gullible. I can't believe the paleo-libertarians are gullible, though. I think there is something else that endears this mountebank to them and I have the strong suspicion it is the fact that he knitted together the words 'Mexicans', 'Rapists' and 'Wall' so masterfully.
