Trump Compares Twitter to Owning His Own Newspaper

Donald Trump on Sunday compared his Twitter account to owning his own newspaper and he is correct.

"This is a modern form, it's like owning my own newspaper," Trump said during a Fox News town hall on Sunday, in response to a question from anchor Greta Van Susteren about whether he'd stop tweeting if he is elected president, reports The Hill.

Trump said he has about 7.5 million people following him on Twitter.

"Picking up hundreds of thousands of people within a short time," he said.

He also touted the large number of followers he has on Facebook and Instagram.

"I have like 16, 17 million people. That's like owning The New York Times ... why should I give it up?" he asked.

But Trump did say he would use Twitter differently if elected president, according to The Hill.

"As president, I think I'd be very much different on that," he said. "I wouldn't be doing it much."

He added that President Obama uses the social media outlet sometimes, though said Obama shouldn't be used as an example.

"As president, I would probably not be doing it, maybe not be doing it all, but I have millions and millions of people, they rely on it, they love it, and I think it's one of the reasons frankly I'm doing so well."

He said he's "by far" the front-runner, noting some of it is "because of social media."

Trump also noted that if elected president, he will act very presidential.

"I'm a smart guy, being presidential is easy," he said.
