The Republican 100 Day Plan to Stop Donald Trump

NYT reports:
Republican leaders adamantly opposed to Donald J. Trump’s candidacy are preparing a 100-day campaign to deny him the presidential nomination, starting with an aggressive battle in Wisconsin’s April 5 primary and extending into the summer, with a delegate-by-delegate lobbying effort that would cast Mr. Trump as a calamitous choice for the general election.

Recognizing that Mr. Trump has seized a formidable advantage in the race, they say that an effort to block him would rely on an array of desperation measures, the political equivalent of guerrilla fighting.

There is no longer room for error or delay, the anti-Trump forces say, and without a flawlessly executed plan of attack, he could well become unstoppable.

But should that effort falter, leading conservatives are prepared to field an independent candidate in the general election, to defend Republican principles and offer traditional conservatives an alternative to Mr. Trump’s hard-edged populism. They described their plans in interviews after Mr. Trump’s victories last Tuesday in Florida and three other states.

The names of a few well-known conservatives have been offered up in recent days as potential third-party standard-bearers, and William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, has circulated a memo to a small number of conservative allies detailing the process by which an independent candidate could get on general-election ballots across the country.

Among the recruits under discussion are Tom Coburn, a former Oklahoma senator who has told associates that he would be open to running, and Rick Perry, the former Texas governor who was suggested as a possible third-party candidate at a meeting of conservative activists on Thursday in Washington.

  1. Once that's done, it's back to the 5-year plans. ;)

    1. I often joke about "5 year plans" among friends from time to time. It's a hit or miss proposition with some of them.

Have you ever tried to mention them among the younger generation? Sometimes you get a blank stare.

I remember as a kid learning about "5 year plans" in junior high government class during discussions on the Soviet Union. The discussion was moderated by a somewhat Left leaning teacher at the time too...back then(mid 80's) the 5 year plan economic concept was considered laughable, by our Lefty teacher none the less.(this was in SoCal at the time too)

Today, the populace in general doesn't bat an eyelid when pols on both sides of the political spectrum talk about their economic plans. Mind you, those plans are never "my plan is to deregulate and have no plan" either.

    2. Stalin's 5-year plan was taught in high school in Jersey where I grew up (class of '83). I have no idea whether it's still taught or not. I'm reminded of Ralph Raico, who used to start his class with the Communist Manifesto. He stopped doing so because the students started to find the argument "totally persuasive".

So, I usually don't bring things like the 5-year plan up unless it's around people who get it. Most youth don't get anything unless it's Star Wars, PewDiePie, or anything dealing with some politically correct victim group. They're dumbed-down in history and well-versed in social justice. A tough nut to crack.

  2. Why the panic? Of course the Times mis-labels these creeps as "conservatives". But that's beside the point.
When you get past the "style" thing, Trump is pretty much a middle of the road liberal Republican type. I mean, Christie and Guiliani? How North East M.O.R..
So why the panic? They're ready to scorch the Earth over style points?? Trump has never threatened their control. He has reached out for conciliation. So that's not it. There's a piece missing in this puzzle. Somebody's hiding something.

    1. Lindsay Graham and the others are under tremendous pressure from their lobbyist and corporate donors, who own them. If Trump gets in, the donors will no longer control the government. Graham and the others are hearing the donors scream, "Find us a presidential candidate that we can own!"

    1. to the point - they don't want Trump. They would much rather have establishment politicians who will sell us out for THEIR friends. No guarantee Trump wont do the same, at least we need to try SOMETHING different after 16+ year of the same establishment policies...

  4. Lindsay Graham and these others are under tremendous pressure from their lobbyist and corporate donors, who own them. They are being pressured to stop Trump, with extraordinary unprecedented pressure, because a Trump victory means the donors will no longer control the government.
