Neocon Calls on Christie to Do to Trump What He Did to Rubio

With Chris Christie set to quit the Republican presidential race, neocon Jennifer Rubin has a suggestion:

Christie will be remembered for kneecapping Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)...
He has the opportunity, however, to back a candidate and from the sidelines carry on a much-needed assault against Trump. That would serve his own reputation, his party and the country. It is a task he is ideally suited to undertake. After all, he is in a class by himself when it comes to eviscerating opponents.
They seem to be close, so I don't think he will do it, but if he does it will be clear he takes all his marching orders from the establishment,

  1. I had ANOTHER Cruz canvasser knock on my door this morning. (Again, I'm about ten minutes from town in a sparsely populated area.) This fellow was with an organization called "Keep the Promise". (http://www.keepthepromise.com/)

He was polite, well-dressed, knowledgeable, and also an older white male like the first guy; and he asked for whom I would be be voting. I explained to him that I'm a libertarian and that, if I bother with the hassle of voting at all, it would be for local politics only. He seemed genuinely disappointed. I tried to console him by suggesting to perceive me as a neutral country: not doing any harm to his efforts. I then told him that if Cruz had the guts to embrace such a foreign policy he'd get my vote and probably most of the libertarians out there. The canvasser then quickly turned the conversation to border security.

A very savvy fellow, representing an old-school canvassing effort by Cruz, whose "Choose Cruz!" signs are plastered everywhere. It's truly an impressive ground game.

  2. He'll want to keep his VP chances open, so it won't happen.

  3. "Promise Keepers" is the religious group for men. I think you meant "Oath Keepers".

Yeah, when I saw "Keep the Promise" on his I.D. hanging from his lanyard, I thought it a pretty cheesy knock off of the Promise Keepers organization, which has its popularity in these parts.

Another thing that bothered me was a letter in the mail from the Cruz folks with the words "check enclosed" in large print on the front. My political curiosity piqued, I opened it up and, sure enough, there was a check... made out to the Cruz campaign for forty dollars! It was their attempt at fundraising. I'm sensing some very disingenuous vibes from this clever poser.

  4. "Oath Keepers" is the grass-roots group for military/law-enforcement.

  5. Rubio is a chump and so much NOT "in the moment" that he kept repeating his canned reply even after Christie accused him of doing just that. He was easy pickin's. Trump not so much. Trump is a master of creatively saying nothing, and he's no pushover. Trump is to Christie as Christie is to Rubio, and I think Christie knows that.

  6. Based on his oft-stated record as a federal prosecutor, Attorney General would be right up his evil alley.
