Target Liberty reader sends along the below shocking workshop announcement email he received.
It reveals the leftist agenda and how it is even seeping into grade schools. They want to create a society of crybabies, who are not taught productivity, entrepreneurship, seeking greatness, hard work and respect for hard work, but a society where "demands" on government, business etc. are foremost and every slight, minor or just imagined, must occupy hours of a person's day with protests and other activism, while the decline in production, and lack of respect for work well done, leads to a deteriorating society and a population that has no clue how to make things right. -

TITLE: Social Justice Curriculum Design for the Elementary Classroom
DATE: January 29, 2016
TIME: 8:30 AM-3:30 PM
LOCATION: Montclair State University-University Hall, ADP Center Room 1143
INSTRUCTOR: Bree Picower
This workshop provides a framework of social justice curriculum for elementary classrooms. The framework moves from students learning self-love and knowledge about who they are and where they come from and shift to learning respect for their peers different from their own. Students explore issues of social injustice, learn about social movements, raise awareness, and engage in activism. By designing curriculum around this framework, teachers support students to develop an analysis of oppression and tools to take action. This workshop is designed to help teachers visualize social justice education by providing examples of projects, making social justice in K-6 settings accessible, practical, and achievable. After creating a vision through examples, participants will collaboratively engage in beginning stages of curriculum design for their own classrooms.

Is this satire? I could not have packed as many PC buzzwords into as few words if I tried.
ReplyDeleteMy three kids are home-schooled. The oldest has graduated early from High School. They're bright, active, and successful at whatever they decide to do to challenge themselves with the talents they possess.
ReplyDeleteFrom my observations, this is the natural state of children if left to their own devices and taught the three Rs, creating an autodidactic mentality. I know home-schooled kids from different races, ethnicities, and income levels; all can-do kids with specialities presenting themselves at an early age, many times augmenting into expert skills by the time they're teenagers.
No victims in the bunch. That is a learned trait not usually taught by loving parents.
I'm so glad I was homeschooled. For libertarianism to succeed, we must start from scratch: abandon and abolish government education. There is no excuse for us to support it in any way; this curriculum just another example.
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of PC words in this announcement but curiously I don't see "equality." Maybe they are open to a little reason. As a parent I sometimes joined these groups and pointed out that the best way to show respect for your peers was to engage only in voluntary transactions. They found it difficult to argue against "peaceful voluntary transactions." Didn't stop them from designing some strange curriculums but it made them think.
ReplyDeleteI am confused. Where are the NAP violations here? Other than the fact that this is being done through a compulsive education system funded through coercion, which could be used to object to ANY subject matter thus presented.
ReplyDeleteI don't see any calls for using the State to achieve the goals stated on the flyer. I don't have a problem with social justice activism, as long as it does not call on the coercive power of the State to violate the rights of others.
Yes, the compulsive education and funding through coercion are the first and second NAP violations. Rest assured they most vigorously agitate for the state to pursue their goals, even if only the goals are mentioned in the above flyer. That would be the third and most ominous NAP violation. As evidenced in myriad existing anti-discrimination laws and social welfare laws. It's the close intertwining of all these forms of aggression with the above ideas that makes the package morally unacceptable.
DeleteIn a free society where these people had no stranglehold on cartelized institutions, no state extorted monies to command, and no hand on the levers of state powers to impose their social visions, then yes, they could peacefully preach whatever social values they liked to voluntary audiences using only their own earned property in the process. The current world is not that world. The violence they employ is just concealed because it’s routed indirectly through long-established mechanisms and institutions of state power and clouded in obfuscatory language like “policy reform activism.”
Ed u cation good points about the feckless NAP The Libertarian Party points out "hurt" as something to be avoided, burt being viewed as not aggression according to certain NAPsters such as Bionic Mosquito. If one is taught and accepts the hurtful principles of social justice, them violence follows just as the Strawberry Statement led to the Weather Underground.
ReplyDeleteAnd this should be a wake up call to the mindless home schooler crowd who think that the principles of liberty and libertarianism are the main ones taught, just as easy to homeschooling cultural diversity and socialism, indeed in a more radical form than taught at State schools
Homeschoolers, by opting out, by not having professional educators advance liberty and virtue in the State schools, are leaving the field open for the PC and social engineers
Libertarians aren't as smart as they think they are
I'm trying to understand your perspective Mr. Burnett. Is this your work?

Also of note, I've never read a piece by Bionic Mosquito where he he conflates "harm" with "aggression". If you could direct me via link to such an instance I would appreciate it.
