Rubio Out Does Trump on Anti-Muslim Trash Talk

Robert Reich comments:
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) seems to be trying to Trump Trump in bigotry against U.S. Muslims. Rubio said last night he wants to shut down “any place where radicals are being inspired,” including mosques. Last weekend, when ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked Rubio about Hillary Clinton’s resistance the words “radical Islam,” Rubio countered that all Muslims – including U.S. Muslims -- are comparable to Germans before World War II “who may have been members of the Nazi party but weren’t violent themselves.” In other words, Muslims are like Nazis, although some haven’t yet turned violent. He continued: “This is a clash of civilizations. … There is no middle ground on this. Either they win or we win.”

Doesn’t Rubio know that radical jihadism is barbarously killing Muslims in the Middle East? Radical jihadism is the enemy of most Muslims. But politicians like the Rubio, Trump, and other Republicans who assume most Muslims are radical jihads are doing exactly what ISIS hopes. They’re fanning the flames of hate against Muslims, and creating a “clash of civilizations” between the West and Islam where there is none – but could eventually be if the Republicans keep fanning those flames. The cynical politics of bigotry now being deployed by Trump, Rubio, and other Republicans endangers the future of America and the world.

  1. Based on what I've seen on FB and a little in the right wing news, many Americans already believe 'the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim'. I agree with you. This is not good. It will only cause problems.

  2. I gotta admit, I prefer Reich's leftism over Rubio's war-mongering.
After all, the domestic welfare programs don't piss away a fraction of what the Pentagon does.
Sure it's immoral to steal (tax) money, but doubly so when you use it to kill people.

  3. If you got muslim friends or relatives, now is a time to have a conversation about gun rights.

    1. Bingo. This is why the 2nd amendment is so important. If the majority gets out of hand, the minority should have something to deter them with.
