To help combat them, the department has created a new counsel that will coordinate the investigation and prosecution of anti-government and hate groups.
Assistant Attorney General John Carlin, who oversees national security at the Justice Department, announced the new position -- the Domestic Terrorism Counsel -- following a number of violent attacks or plots against the U.S. that he said were motivated by "anti-government views, racism, bigotry and anarchy, and other despicable beliefs."(ht Mike Cheel)
No doubt that the DOJ will be using lists put together by the SPLC, although Im curious to see how many libertarian groups are on this list if it ever goes public. I'll hazard to guess that most of them are conservative groups which aren't anti-government at all just anti-liberal government.

ReplyDeleteI don't think we should be surprised that as the empire continues it's long term economic descent and civil unrest in the general population grows, that anti-government groups will be scape goated as the reason why the empire is failing in general by those running government.
ReplyDeleteThe history of failing empires always includes groups by which said empire targets in an effort to displace the anger toward the empire itself- the empire always blames others for its failure and sadly libertarians make a convenient target.
"It's not the government failing you citizens. It's those that foment the lack of faith in government."
I can see it plainly, it truly is 1984 coming down the pike. There might be a time where we all have to be silent/leave if it gets bad enough.
I couldn't help but notice the equivocal use of the word "U.S." in the statement as opposed to the univocal use of it. The sleight-of-mind these people employ is disgusting.

Even if I grant the truthfulness of the claim being made, it would be more accurate for the statement to read "following a number of violent attacks or plots against the U.S. government..."
