I think Trump is trying to make it so that Hillary Clinton wins the next election. He's been a Democrat until just a few years ago and he still supports things like gun control and socialized medicine. Seems like he's playing this conservative caricature and being inflammatory to poison the well for whoever the eventual Republican nominee, especially if that's him, is. If it's not him, he'll run as an independent, spoiling the election for the Republican nominee. That would make the next election a shoe in for Hillary. He, apparently, thinks she should do the job, because he's donated a lot of money to her previous campaign and to the Clinton Foundation. Seems to me that Trump is single handedly picking the next President.
