Despite his claim to the Kentucky Republican party, Rand Paul hasn't transferred money to fund a proposed Kentucky caucus.
Although Rand wrote in a letter last week to nearly 350 members of the Republican Party of Kentucky's central committee that he had transferred $250,000 to a state GOP account to cover the initial costs of holding a presidential caucus next year, Rand hasn't provided a dime, committee members told the Kentucky Herald-Leader.
The story is blowing up in the Kentucky media, but hasn't developed nationwide----yet.
Scott Lasley, who is chairman of the Warren County Republican Party and in charge of a special committee to develop rules for the caucus, told the Herald Leader that the letter "seems to be creating some confusion" among committee members.
Who really knows what is going on here? Did someone at his campaign forget to wire the money? Or did Rand think that the GOP wouldn't check their account to see if $250,000 hit?
Whatever explanation Rand comes up with, he will look like, at a minimum, the blundering Senator. And those on the edge as to vote for, or against. a caucus in Kentucky (Rand needs a caucus as opposed to a primary so that he can simultaneously run for re-election to his Senate seat and the presidency) will likely to be pushed toward voting against it becasue of this latest blunder.
Of course, on the national scene, if Trump needs to smack Rand again, Rand just gave him new material.
The present concern though for Rand is this weekend's vote on the caucus. If the Saturday vote goes against Rand and the party votes against a caucus, Rand may pull his largely ineffective presidential bid to protect his Senate seat, which some observes believe is in jeopardy.

It's nice of Rand to put a caucus on layaway, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI miss Kmart's old "blue light" specials. I remember as a kid shopping my Mom in Kmart- watching all the people run across the store when that old cart with the blue light was flashing in some corner of the store.
Those were the days, Nick.
