Whataburger’s Gun Discrimination Is Good For Liberty

Ron Paul is so damn good on most libertarian issues, even on issues that will trip up many libertarians. (I got a lot of flack, for example, defending Uber on its gun position for drivers. See:"Sad news from Uber"?)

This is a very important discussion by Dr. Paul. -RW

  1. I think you you missed the point of the Uber criticism. You yourself have in the past have criticized companies for policies that have nothing to do with liberty. Bad libertarian, Wenzel!

    1. I would argue that even business policies are considered anti-liberty is still correct under private property. Yeah as libertarians we dont like companies who ban guns at their locations but unlike some we recognize that its their right to regulate their property as they see fit.

  2. Finally, RW, Ron Paul, Whataburger, and Texas gun rights groups all GET IT RIGHT.

I dissented with RW's opinion Uber could legitimately ban guns as a "private company" because the taxi business is not competitive. The hamburger business in Texas is substantially (though not totally) competitive. Many competitors already exist and a pro-gun competitor could easily enough enter the market if necessary. In fact, not coincidentally, I haven't heard of any anti-carry policies emanating from Burger King, McDonalds, or any other Texas hamburger joints who apparently covet the business of pro-gunners.

Texas gun rights groups that achieved open carry legalization in the first place have declared they will boycott Whataburger, which is exactly the right response to a private business that sets odious policies.

    Kudos to all involved.
