EXPOSED Government's Insane War on Dietary Fat

Dariush Mozaffarian and David S. Ludwig write in NYT:
The “We Can!” program, run by the National Institutes of Health, recommends that kids “eat almost anytime” fat-free salad dressing, ketchup, diet soda and trimmed beef, but only “eat sometimes or less often” all vegetables with added fat, nuts, peanut butter, tuna canned in oil and olive oil. Astoundingly, the National School Lunch Program bans whole milk, but allows sugar-sweetened skim milk...

Recent research has established the futility of focusing on low-fat foods. Confirming many other observations, large randomized trials in 2006 and 2013 showed that a low-fat diet had no significant benefits for heart disease, stroke, diabetes or cancer risks, while a high-fat, Mediterranean-style diet rich in nuts or extra-virgin olive oil — exceeding 40 percent of calories in total fat — significantly reduced cardiovascular disease, diabetes and long-term weight gain. Other studies have shown that high-fat diets are similar to, or better than, low-fat diets for short-term weight loss, and that types of foods, rather than fat content, relate to long-term weight gain....

The limit on total fat is an outdated concept, an obstacle to sensible change that promotes harmful low-fat foods, undermines efforts to limit refined grains and added sugars, and discourages the food industry from developing products higher in healthy fats.

  1. This is old news but always worth restating. The HHS, AMA, FDA and their offshoots are completely ran by a revolving door system with big pharama, big aggra and the major food processors. It's a business model that uses the state to drive consumer spending to their products.

  2. That. Money and power. The diet they preach to us is one that enhances their power and wealth. The scientific management of people started over a century ago and everything we get from government, foundations, etc has some basis in it.

  3. I eat 80% of my calories from saturated animal fat. 15% animal protein and 5% carbs from vegetables. This is called the ketogenic diet. I has done wonders for my health.

      Couldn't agree with you more. On the 80%, can you be specific for me? Exactly what does that look like? Pork ribs, beef stock, fatty beef steaks? What are you eating to limit your protein intake to 15% while consuming 80% animal fat? Thanks.

    2. My diet is 10% calories in fat, 10% in plant protein, and 80% in carbs. Govt recommendations ignore our diversity.
