American Politicians Often Answer To No One

By Chris Rossini

Neocons lost their minds (at least what was left of them) when news of the Iran Deal broke.

Marco Rubio made an interesting comment:
“If Iran becomes a nuclear weapons power, as I anticipate they will, over the next 10 years, everyone who supported it or voted for it or allowed it to go forward will have to answer to history for that, including many of my Democratic colleagues and most certainly this president.”
Don't worry about it Marco.

First of all, politicians (especially in a democracy) are primarily concerned about the short-term. For the details on why this is so, read Hoppe's Democracy: The God That Failed. Politicians in a democracy lie to get elected, grab as much power and money for themselves and their cronies, then float off into the Caribbean sunset.

Results don't matter. There is no "answering to history," whatever that's supposed to mean. In America especially, there's no answering to anyone. Votes mean nothing, government's mainstream media isn't going to grill you, and the court historians will be ever-so-gentle.

In fact (as odd as it may seem) if your policy fails as an American politician, your advice and council is highly sought. You get onto the talk shows (like Dick Cheney). You're quoted in every mainstream publication (like McCain & Graham). You're re-elected (McCain & Graham again), and your hobbies become a national conversation piece (George W. Bush is a painter you know).

Oh, and let's not forget the money!

Failed political figures like George W. Bush, the Clintons, Ben Bernanke, and Alan Greenspan have hundreds of thousands rained down on them for a single speech. Americans trip over themselves to pay for the worst ideas that anyone can buy.

Ten years is an eternity Marco. Should your worst case scenario ever materialize, no one will have to answer for anything. FoxNews will still be interviewing John Bolton on whether or not the U.S. should wage yet another disastrous war.

  2. Right on the money. Americans can't remember things that happen one week ago politically.
