Neil Young Flips Out Over Trump Using His Song at Presidential Announcement

Donald Trump is a failure when it comes to respecting intellectual property.

Trump announced his bid for the presidency with Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” blasting in the background.

Young is not happy.

“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin' in the Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement,” Young told LaTi through his longtime manager, Elliot Roberts. “Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for president of the United States of America.”

Roberts said he has contacted Trump’s camp and requested that it stop using the song.

  1. Is it really consistent for a SOCIALIST to be complaining about intellectual PROPERTY?? Shouldn't he consider the song just as much Trump's as it is his?

    1. Excellent response. It reminds me of Joshua Sperber, who came on EPJ last month to defend his write-up on "libertarian mythologies", only to leave without answering me on whether he was a Marxist or not.

It only came out that he was most likely a Marxist when he tried to distinguish between personal and productive property(like Marx tried, laughably).

See, it's "ok" for Marxists to own property personally, but when another person chooses to own property that has productive capacity, well that's a big "no no" in their warped world.

They accuse other of being coercive, but the basics of their philosophy start by telling(and forcing) you to only own what they say you can own. It's ridiculous. He actually accused Roddis of "conflating" personal and private property...lol...like's there's some magical difference.

There is no such thing as a "libertarian socialist" as Neil Young claims, only confusion. You can't be for and against property rights in any reasonable manner unless the definition of property itself is in question(which is the only thing I grant anti-IP people and where they are different from Marxists, even though I disagree with them).

Marxists don't usually argue whether something is capable of being property or not, they just forbid people from owning it if it's productive in nature.(as best as I can tell reading Marx's stuff, it's tough reading pure stupidity and paying attention)

In Neil Young's warped world view, he has rights to his song but Trump is probably a bad person for owning casino's that "exploit" people in his world view.

Marxists really are some of the worst intellectual hypocrites on the planet, which is further annoying because many of them are intelligent in other areas.

  2. His lack of respect for IP may make him the most libertarian one in the race.

  3. Don't expect any consistency out of old Neil... I love the guy, but on his latest album, one song talks about saving the earth and stopping fossil fuels, while the very next song is titled "I wanna drive my car".

    Can't make this stuff up.
