Arkansas has a bill in the legislative hopper similar to Indiana's "religious freedom" bill. The core of these bills are really freedom of association, and property rights.
Are you free to associate with whoever you want, or not? Is your property really yours, or can the government force you to make exchanges that you don't want to make?
A few days ago, Indiana's Governor, Mike Pence, folded to the mob of force-worshippers. And today, Arkansas Governor, Asa Hutchinson, folded as well.
Hutchinson gave some pitiful explanations. First, he says: “This is a bill that in ordinary times would not be controversial. But these are not ordinary times.”
So liberty and freedom of association are cyclical? Will businesses get their freedom back when "ordinary times" return?
Of course not. Once government takes away a freedom, you don't get it back.
Then Hutchinson provides this line as an explanation: "My son Seth signed the petition asking me, Dad, the governor, to veto this bill."
So?
Should voters now question politicians as to what their sons and daughters believe? Obviously, they can be a contributing factor in taking away liberty.
The stories of Indiana, and now Arkansas, paint a very telling picture of America. If the mobs are big enough (and they contain celebrities and politically-correct CEO's) then any liberties that still exist are toast.
