George W. Bush on Patrick Buchanan

The great libertarian Murray Rothbard supported the 1992 presidential campaign of Patrick Buchanan.

Lew Rockwell reported:
Pat Buchanan challenged George Bush for the Republican nomination, saying that Bush had made two unforgivable errors: he waged an unjust war against Iraq and he raised taxes. Did Rothbard support Buchanan? You bet. And he worked overtime trying to get Buchanan up to speed on broader economic issues while defending him against the ridiculous charges of the left.
As usual, Rothbard's instincts were in the right place. When the Bushies hate someone, you know they aren't playing according to establishment designed rules--and the Bushies hate Buchanan.

Here is what George W. Bush, in 41: A Portrait of My Father, has to say, 25 years later, about Buchanan's principled campaign run against his father:
In December 1991, the political commentator and TV show host Patrick J. Buchanan had announced that he was challenging Dad in the New Hampshire Republican primary. Buchanan had never held any elected office and seemed to be running in part to boost his TV ratings.

  1. W. on the other hand, ran for president because he'd run out of venture capital to bail out any more of his failed companies.

Well, actually..... W probably never said any such thing himself. His ghostwriter surely crafted that comment. W is so inarticulate that he could never string together that many words without malapropism.
