The Big Favor Kshama Sawant is Doing For Everyone on Seattle

Taken from Thursday’s edition of The David Boze Show on 770 KTTH.

When it comes to fighting for the people, few residents in Seattle give themselves more credit than Socialist City Councilmember Kshama Sawant.

Remember she fought very hard to become a Seattle city councilmember. In fact, it was huge news for the international Socialist community and she pointed out that it was the sign of things to come. That this was the people speaking out about the future governance.

She might be right about that. However, once she got elected, she’s forgotten that part where you have to show up for work.

The Seattle Times reports she has the second lowest Seattle City Council committee meeting attendance rate. The only person lower than Sawant was Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, who has already announced he won’t be running for reelection.

According to the numbers from the Times, Sawant has shown up for 75 percent of the meetings she was expected to attend.

Now many people are critical of her for this, but I say let’s not forget that she is giving away most of her salary and has decided to only keep $35,000 of it.

If that’s still true, then maybe she feels like when she surrendered the salary, it meant she doesn’t have to show up that often.

I also think by not showing up, she might be taking one for the team because my understanding is the people on the council can’t stand being around her. It’s said she is so strident and more focused on being an activist than a part of the establishment, even though she is definitely a part of the establishment now.

By not showing up, she might be doing everyone some favors.

  1. "By not showing up, she might be doing everyone some favors."

That's what i keep telling my Republican friends when they complain how absent Obama is whenever there is a crisis or whatever. He's doing better for this country by working on his golf handicap than sitting in the Oval Office with his pen and his phone.
