Senator: Netanyahu Address to U.S. Congress Will Be an Historic Event

By Martin Hill

Senator John Cornyn (R. TX) gave a speech in the Senate Feb. 12th explaining "the reasons why most Americans stand with Israel and why U.S. aid to Israel enjoys such overwhelming support among both parties here in Congress"

Cornyn spoke of the "historic event" happoening next month when Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address the U.S. Congress for the third time. Cornyn, who has been in office since 2002, warned of "the grave threat that radical islam and the iranian regime pose to our security and our way of life."

He added "now, for some reason, some people are trying to turn this into a public controversy, but to me and I imagine many others it is mystifying and somewhat disappointing. The reasons for supporting and defending the nation of Israel are obvious. Both of our countries are pluralistic democracies with a staunch commitment to liberty, equality, and human rights."

Cornyn introduced 'Senate Resolution 76' last Thursday, titled "A resolution welcoming the Prime Minister of Israel to the United States for his address to a joint session of Congress." 2016 Presidential hopeful and yarmulke-wearer Rand Paul proudly cosponsored the measure and even tweeted about it.

Cornyn formerly worked as the Attorney General of Texas under Governor George W. Bush and Rick Perry. Wikipedia notes that Cornyn is a member of the "Church of Christ," an obscure Protestant sect.

Cornyn said "Israel's a shining model of democratic values for nations around the world. It's a great example for others to follow." He referred to "the stong cultural, religious and political ties shared by the United States and Israel."

He added that the Iranian regime was "a tremendous threat to the unites states and to our ally Israel" and claimed "it's the same regime that not too long ago was plotting to blow up a restaurant right here in Washington D.C."

  1. Can we all admit that when Netanyahu comes to address Congress, it will be an address by the REAL President of the United States?
