Flush Toilets and The Advance of American Exceptionalism

R.J. Rushdoony wrote, 47 years ago, in the introduction to Gary North's 1968 book, MARX'S RELIGION OF REVOLUTION: The Doctrine of Creative Destruction:
At the conclusion of World War II, the world powers set in motion, as the principle of progress, the machinery of revolution. In passionate dedication to the City of Man, revolution was encouraged, incited, or engendered in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. These revolutions, instead of bringing peace and progress to the world, have only increased the darkness of the new Dark Ages and furthered the collapse of law, order and civilization. The humanists are aware of these problems, and they have an answer, more magic, more revolutions, revolution within revolutions. They are confident, of course, that they represent light and civilization. After all, do they not have flush toilets, and have they not invented atomic and hydrogen bombs?

  1. I gotta love Rushdoony. He saw things so clearly and was able to express what he saw. That's rare in writers of any generation.
