Al Sharpton Owes $4.5 Million in Back Taxes

Sharpton, has more than $4.5 million in state and federal tax liens outstanding against him and his for-profit businesses, reports Xrepublic.

According to NYT Sharpton, who hosts an MSNBC talk show, "traveled first-class and collected a sizable salary" despite the outstanding liens.

His New York state tax bill has risen in recent years — and his nonprofit organization, the National Action Network, has not paid federal payroll taxes on its employees for years.

  1. So instead of mocking Al Sharpton's hypocrisy on taxes, libertarians should use this opportunity to:

    a) Demonstrate that taxes are involuntary and even the most fervent tax advocates resist paying taxes (e.g. Al Sharpton and Tim Geithner)

    b) Advocate that all Americans pay the same tax rate that Al Sharpton pays. Zero.

  3. If any non-politically connected businessman doesn't pay federal payroll taxes on his employees, you can rest assured it doesn't go on for "years" and it ends up with the forced closure of his business, seized bank accounts & assets, fines and possibly jail time.

I don't think this is an unusual perk for our elected masters.

It came out a few years ago that our state governor took $40k in consulting fees before she was elected governor while she was a state senator and didn't report the income.

To this day, I'm not aware of any IRS investigation of her...and said omission came out in major newspaper of the state, it wasn't like it just hit tertiary media.

  4. Its refreshing to know AL Sharpton is anti state, at least in his actions. Like all politicians, watch what they do and not what they say. A closet anarchist!
