""When You Make a Mistake on Sixth Street, You Die."

Government protection is a myth. Different rules apply in different parts of town.

The San Francisco Chronicle explains reality:
Two men were shot and killed Tuesday on the same block of Sixth and Mission street in San Francisco...

Daniel Beltran, 18, was shot after getting into a fight with two others in the lobby of the residential Henry Hotel at 106 Sixth St. near Mission Street at about 5 a.m. Tuesday... his friends said Beltran and another friend had gone into the hotel to buy marijuana, but had knocked on the wrong door.

"When you make a mistake on Sixth Street, you die," said one of Beltran's friends, who asked not to be identified....

Then, just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, 25-year-old Marc-Anthony Salumbides of Pacifica was gunned down feet from the Henry Hotel's entrance after another altercation.
His friends gathered Wednesday at a makeshift memorial around his bloody handprint, but declined to comment.
