What Would Mark Twain Say Today?

By Chris Rossini

Back when The American Empire was a little bitty baby, anti-imperialist Mark Twain said that the American flag should be redesigned with:

“the white stripes painted black and the stars replaced by skull and crossbones”

That was after the U.S. brutally conquered the Philippines. During that war, 4,374 American soldiers perished along with tens of thousands of Filipinos.

If Mark Twain only knew what was ahead!

First of all, the American Empire is still at war (100+ years after Twain's flag redesign idea) and hundreds of thousands of American soldiers have died, along with millions and millions of foreigners.

What would Mark Twain say today?
