Obama's #RaiseTheWage campaign continues to chug along. As usual, supply and demand are tossed aside for platitudes like "nobody who works full-time should ever have to raise a family in poverty".
The role of The Federal Reserve is totally ignored, as are the fates of the low-skilled, the teenagers, and the poor. The fact that they will be legislated into unemployment goes unspoken.
Obama says that:
"America should forever be a place where your hard work is rewarded."Nonsense!
- Should a person who works hard all day trying to convince people to adopt Socialism be rewarded?
- Should a person who works hard at plotting the next disastrous American war be rewarded?
- Should TSA fondlers be rewarded? I'm sure they'll tell you that they "work hard".
- If someone works hard on bringing back the horse-and-buggy, or the quill pen, should they be rewarded?
You aren't "rewarded" for hard work in the real world. You are rewarded for satisfying the most urgent of consumer desires. Sometimes (and this really bothers the meddlers) it's very easy. No hard work is required at all.
When someone voluntarily pays you for satisfying one of their urgent wants, you're rewarded. You're one of the good guys. You're not wasting scarce resources, but putting them to efficient use.
Don't get me wrong, "hard work" can be great for your character, and for building discipline and good habits. However, it is not the key factor in accumulating "rewards".
Satisfying the urgent needs of your fellow man is paramount. If hard work is directed properly in making that happen, then rewards will fly in faster than you can handle them.
