Last night I went to the Golden State Warriors-New York Knicks game at the new Chase Center (Knicks won in OT!), I stood during the playing of the national anthem largely because I wanted to enjoy the game and not trigger any yahoos who might have been around me.
You will never catch me wearing a Trump-fan boy hat, but the bigger point is you have to know where you are, the environment around you, and when it makes sense to engage the opposition. After all, we are in statist controlled territory.

Interesting that you mention standing for the national anthem at sporting events.
ReplyDeleteMy son and I occasionally attend Utah Jazz games and I, likewise, stand for the anthem for the reason you do. However, I don't put my hand over my heart and I don't stand when they bring out the military "veteran of the game".
So far, I haven't been hassled, but you are 100% correct about knowing your environment.
Same here. I went to a Detroit Pistons game recently, and at games I sometimes don't stand for all that nonsense. This time I did, because (1) it was Veterans Day, and the crowd was especially sexed-up about the military, and (2) the country generally is so enamored of all things military these days, it really is inviting trouble to make such an obvious anti-war statement.
DeleteThe Idiocracy controls the entertainment diversions there is no doubt!
DeleteI take the Anthem as an opportunity to go get a beer...
ReplyDeleteSame here. Not being in your seat when the state's sacraments are being rolled out is the safest way both to live out your principles and avoid being hassled for the rest of the game by those around you.
DeleteAnd, if this catches on among our crowd, it would also be a good way to meet fellow ancaps in the stadium...
My teenage kids all bought MAGA hats, when they went through a phase about a year ago where they wanted to rebel against the rampant liberalism that abounds. It's weird that just wearing a hat with that message is such an act of extremism nowadays. We live in Dearborn, Michigan---one of the largest (or maybe the largest) arab populations in the country; They hate Trump, and they also consider themselves "people of color" and a minority---even though they outnumber the whites here. Laughably, they consider themselves oppressed and victims of racism, even though they dominate the city council and the schools, and most instances of racial violence are from arabs attacking whites, not the other way around. Anyway, my kids finally stopped wearing the hats, as they got hassled all the time (even by white strangers, who would honk their car horns and yell at them out the window!).
