Trump Explains Why He Called Off the Strike on Iran at the Last Minute

President Donald Trump said Friday via a series of tweets that he pulled back from a strike on Iran 10 minutes before it was set to be launched, saying he felt such a move was "not proportionate" to Iran's attack on an unmanned American drone earlier this week.

"We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike I stopped it, not proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone," Trump tweeted. "I am in no hurry, our Military is rebuilt, new, and ready to go, by far the best in the world."

Okay, so we have a reluctant war president. But does Trump realize that it is the US military presence in the region that is the problem and that there are enough very bad actors in the region who want US engagement with Iran that if Trump wants American dead first that one of the bad actors will deliver?

The only solution is for the US to pull out of the Middle East, something Trump doesn't seem to get.

  1. This government is playing a game of "Someone hold me before I smack this man! Uh, I'm serious, I want someone to hold me."?

  3. I get the feeling that Trump's underlings routinely lie to him and/or just plain ignore him.

  4. Trump also learned the Iran military person responsible for the attack acted without authorization and made a mistake.

    1. Hi Michael,

Are you spreading fake news? I seen no reliable sources reporting this and Trump didn't even provide this as a reason he called off the strike.

    2. All I saw was Trump saying the “thought” it was a mistake. Is there more now?

  5. Good for Trump. Maybe he feels guilty for murdering Nawar al-Awlaki, an 8 year old girl. But RW, you are so right here, if The Great Orange needs a dead American, someone, and no doubt another American, will oblige him.

  8. The money saved on a war with Iran could be better used to deport every damn illegal back to their home country.

You have to hand it to Trump here on diplomacy. Whether he gets the bigger issue of US interference in that region is up for debate.

  10. Trump abstains from retaliating against Iran's retaliation against US violation of Iranian airspace? How heroic!
