Ocasio-Cortez Compares Climate Change "Threat" to Nazi Germany Threat

There are some very scary socialist up and comers that too many people are paying attention to.

Case in point: At a campaign event on Friday, socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez compared the "existential threat" posed by climate change to that of Nazi Germany during World War II.

"So we talk about existential threats, the last time we had a really major existential threat to this country was around World War II," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"And so we've been here before and we have a blueprint of doing this before." "What we had was an existential threat in the context of a war. We had a direct existential threat with another nation, this time it was Nazi Germany, and the Axis, who explicitly made the United States as an enemy, as an enemy," she said.

"What we did was that we chose to mobilize our entire economy and industrialized our entire economy and we put hundreds of thousands if not millions of people to work in defending our shores and defending this country," she stated. "We have to do the same thing in order to get us to 100 percent renewable energy, and that's just the truth of it."

  1. She wants to launch a War On Climate Change? Sure. It would've the same exact chance of success as the other war on things that other Socialists have pursued at other times: the War On Poverty, the War On Smoking, the War On Drugs...

More than being a Socialist, Ocasio-Cortez sounds like a Keynesian. Keynesians long for another wartime command-and-control economy, a thing they fell in love during WWI.

Possibly because of ignorance of history, Ocasio-Cortez does not mention the severe privations that the American public was subjected to during the war years, with everything from food to gasoline and other consumer goods being rationed by the government. Highly unlikely that Americans made that choice collectively but, even if all people agreed, that doesn't mean Americans didn't suffer a lower standard of living compared to the Depression years before the war, let alone the post-war years. Economic output was focused on military equipment and consumables required by the war effort, which excluded the production of consumer goods that improve people's lives.

Ocasio-Cortez seems to insinuate that an "industrialized" America was the result of a collective effort designed to defeat an enemy, but this is a complete distortion of the facts. The American economy was already very industrialized by the time the war started. It just wasn't set up to churn out military equipment. Ocasio-Cortez seems oblivious to the concept of conflicting choices.

  3. LOL Germany wasn't actually an existential threat to this country. After all, they couldn't even cross the English Channel. No way they could mount a successful cross ocean invasion of America.

    1. And the one government that did cross an ocean to attack the US, namely, the Japanese government, also was not interested in invading.

I can't figure out if AOC is just plain stupid, or (speaking of Nazis) if she is channeling Goebbels when he said "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."

  4. This of course is propaganda from Ocasio-Cortez. Remember what it took to get enough of the population in the USA to go along with entering WWII? The propaganda, although heavy, was not enough. FDR had to allow Pearl Harbor to be attached.

If you follow her logic brought on by her erroneous history, climate change has been caused in great part by this “blueprint” that “industrialized our entire economy”. Now we are supposed to use this blueprint to stop climate change. She misses the irony in her erroneous example that government actions that were ostensibly to make things better have cause something worse. Alexandria also misses that this will surely be true if we mobilize our entire economy to get us to 100 percent renewable energy.

    1. Umm, I think she misses the stupidity of her erroneous examples and it's up to the rest of the remaining sentient beings on the planet to pointedly point it out. Chickens like these be ripe for the plucking and it would be a disservice to mankind to let this kind of idiocy pass for a common sense solution to the crises threatening the world.

  5. So basically what she is saying is that climate change is as bad as socialism. Geez, that is bad Miss Casio-watch-Valdez. I mean, I guess she would know.

  6. When she says that we "Industrialized the entire economy..." does she think that we weren't already industrialized? Because that is really a silly assessment. All that really happened was factories that were being used to make consumer goods were converted to make weapons. Farmers still had to farm and the factories already existed because of the market economy. The big change was that the workers were overseas fighting so many of them had to be replaced by women. She seems to not understand this simple point, along with everything else. Is this what they teach at NYU? Or did she skip classes and learn this from the patrons sitting at the bar?
