Laura Bush: Separating Children From Their Parents at the Border ‘Breaks My Heart’

Even the generally silent wife of an evil one objects.

Laura Bush writes:
On Sunday, a day we as a nation set aside to honor fathers and the bonds of family, I was among the millions of Americans who watched images of children who have been torn from their parents. In the six weeks between April 19 and May 31, the Department of Homeland Security has sent nearly 2,000 children to mass detention centers or foster care. More than 100 of these children are younger than 4 years old. The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders.

I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.

Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso. These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history.
Note: The the claim that Obama may have done the same thing is not a justification to support the separation. It is incorrect logic. It is a form of whataboutism.

  1. I'm unmoved here. Articles like this or another TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) and baby waving BS. I'm sorry their countries suck balls, but they knew the risk. Note that Mexico did not bother to offer them asylum. I take pride in the fact that the illegals who come here are well treated. So what they are 'in a cage'? They have free medical care to some level (how many unemployed Americans can't even get that?), air conditioned shelter, water, food. I think they have it pretty damn good.

Besides, how do we know they are really 'their' children?

Find another topic RW. I know you have this libertardian open border fantasy, but you libertardians in some ways are just as much a threat to society as leftist.

You are a pathetic, cowardly, sad little dickless excuse of a man. Jesus may have died for your sins too, but you're giving Him plenty of reason for second thought on the matter.

Poor little boy. So frightened by the scary brown children.

You are worse than my shit.

    2. Let us know when you foster one of these children. Better yet, head down to Honduras and clean up conditions there so these loving parents quit jeopardizing the lives of their children. At the very least go ahead and set up a GoFundMe and donate your time and money to the cause.

Are you arguing America is far more dangerous a place than Honduras? Or what exactly are you trying to say?

Those parents make a very perilous trek seeking a better life for them and their families. What makes you think that this is evidence of a callous disregard by these parents for the welfare of their children?

RW isn't for "open borders" as you want to define them.

I am for open borders: open to trade, to the free flow of goods, services, capital and yes, labor. What that means is NOT unfettered immigration which is what you pretend to be complaining about. The Market controls how many immigrants come and go thanks to price signals and voluntary contractual agreements. If you harbor a disdain for Markets and people acting upon their choices freely, then why not say so out in the open and be done with it.

How do you even know they're actually their children to begin with? This is one of the oldest forms of immigration fraud. And they've all been coached up to say that they are family and they are fleeing oppression. How credulous are you guys? RW?

Open borders are not libertarian, they are not PPS, they are not a good idea. Your wrongness on this issue is one thing; your pathological wrongness and horrible arguments (and unwillingness to debate it on the facts, e.g., "They are all invited and have jobs so you're evil racist fascists!") makes me suspicious of your motives.

I await your snarky reply that is completely devoid of analysis of the actual facts, but heavy on virtue signaling and poorly aimed sarcasm.

Yes, they are. Open to trade, to the free exchange of goods, of services, of capital and, yes, of labor. Open borders doesn't mean unfettered immigration as The Market regulates how many immigrants come, proof being the NEGATIVE rates of immigration from Mexico during the economic downturn.

And yes, they're being invited in by The Market. You prefer to fancy them as invaders, which is evidence of mental instability and paranoia.

  6. Whataboutism is good logic in politics. It says you can't be a hypocrite and still be taken seriously. These people should be shamed relentlessly. Until Laura Bush publicly condemns her husband for murdering/separating 10000s of innocent Iraqi children she should shut her complicit pie hole.

Until the left disavows and condemns Obama, their opinions deserve mock and scorn.

As for these derelict invader parents, they should count their lucky stars that Trump and not Hillary is President. At least under Trump they have a chance to see their kids again.

  7. @Newton, not to mention it did not bother Mama Bush when her husband killed and orphaned hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children from a war based upon lies.

  9. @Robert What?: No doubt.

@RW: "It is a form of whataboutism." Although it was mentioned already above (I just saw it), I'll say that people who deploy "Hey, that's whataboutism!" do so when they are being hypocrites. So it is good to practice whataboutism; you are smoking out hypocrites. That's why hypocrites don't like it, and put in pre-emptive strikes like: "The the claim that Obama may have done the same thing is not a justification to support the separation. It is incorrect logic. It is a form of whataboutism."

Just FYI. Also, you literally posted an article called "A Few Questions for Newton Acton Paxton," and I replied to each of your points. Do you intend to answer? Or should I and your readers assume you were convinced?

A golf club's property boundaries do not extend beyond the property it owns. A PPS would be the same.

── 2. How do you create a libertarian society by importing non-libertarians? ──

Oh, how do you create a libertarian society by begetting children, who may grow up not to be libertarians?

Yours is a stupid question, for two reasons: one, immigrants are not imported ─they're INVITED in, and two, there's the implication that libertarian ideals are not convincing, which is merely: you, projecting, Trumpista.

I see no difference between the positions of the Libertarians and the hard Left on many issues including this one "But think of the children" has been the cry of the cultural destructors for decades. Anyone here who's heart is bleeding is welcome to take as many immigrant families into their homes as they want.

"Open Borders" is argued from the perspective that there is no welfare state.

If you tell them there is, and so they need to incorporate that into their analysis, they'll just say "But it shouldn't be there!", plug their ears, and keep yelling "you're only against it cuz ur raycisssssssss!" (See the last few entries on this blog for evidence)

── "Open Borders" is argued from the perspective that there is no welfare state. ──

That's a red herring. Welfare is still a political tool. Governments make use of political tools all the time, that doesn't justify imposing a policy that restricts people's ability to freely contract with people from other countries.
