Despite His Thumbs Up for Pompeo, Rand Paul Still Has a Target on His Head

By Kurt Nimmo

Like a black hole, the swamp draws everything into its gravitational hold, nothing escapes, not even libertarians.

Rand Paul, the Republican Senator from Kentucky, has made the confirmation of the neocon CIA director Mike Pompeo as secretary of state possible.

“I just finished speaking to President Trump, after speaking to him several times today. I also met with and spoke to Director Pompeo,” Paul said in a statement issued earlier this week.

“After calling continuously for weeks for Director Pompeo to support President Trump’s belief that the Iraq war was a mistake, and that it is time to leave Afghanistan, today I received confirmation that Director Pompeo agrees with President Trump. President Trump believes that Iraq was a mistake, that regime change has destabilized the region, and that we must end our involvement with Afghanistan,” he said.

“Having received assurances from President Trump and Director Pompeo that he agrees with the President on these important issues, I have decided to support his nomination to be our next Secretary of State.”

Big mistake, Rand.

You were played.

Trump’s betrayal of his base—from nonintervention to the border—should suffice as evidence enough the president has no intention of draining the swamp or departing from its neocon ways.

Donald Trump the casino and real estate conman who tricked a large slice of the nation into believing he had the answers—despite flip-flopping like a gilled trout during the campaign—has since allowed himself to be drawn into the black hole of American Exceptionalism, which is nothing more than refried Manifest Destiny with a pro-Israel twist.

Mike Pompeo is no secret. He hates Iran. He’s a suck-up to Israel and its neocon brigade. As America’s top diplomat, he will drive the nation to war, regardless of what Trump says about bringing troops home and getting the hell out of Syria.

President Trump is caught in an election campaign loop. He says the same thing over and over, using the same tired adjectives to garnish his diminutive version of American Exceptionalism, a cartoonish take on the Republican Party motif, itself a recycled melange of trite aphorisms from the Eisenhower-esque 1950s now window dressing a carnivorous corporatism.

Despite a thumbs up for Pompeo, Rand still has a target on his head. The neocons hate him—just like they hate Trump, but for different reasons, mostly his insistence on following the Constitution—and are determined to sink him and get a more compliant water carrier in his Senate seat.

A shadowy “dark money” group has put out an ad criticizing Paul as a useful idiot for terrorists because...

  1. Too bad Rand can be played like this. Pompeo will say anything he needs to say in order to get confirmed.

  2. Rand Paul is like the dorky kid who wants the cool kids to like him, so he throws a big party, the cool kids have lots of fun, trash his house and still don't like him.
