It’s Time to Panic Now

Fred Kaplan of Slate on the insane John Bolton:
It’s time to push the panic button.

John Bolton’s appointment as national security adviser—a post that requires no Senate confirmation—puts the United States on a path to war. And it’s fair to say President Donald Trump wants us on that path.

After all, Trump gave Bolton the job after the two held several conversations (despite White House chief of staff John Kelly’s orders barring Bolton from the building). And there was this remark that Trump made after firing Rex Tillerson and nominating the more hawkish Mike Pompeo to take his place: “We’re getting very close to having the Cabinet and other things I want.”

Bolton has repeatedly called for launching a first strike on North Korea, scuttling the nuclear arms deal with Iran, and then bombing that country too. He says and writes these things not as part of some clever “madman theory” to bring Kim Jong-un and the mullahs of Tehran to the bargaining table, but rather because he simply wants to destroy them and America’s other enemies too.

    1. Give him a parachute and air-drop him over Pyongyang or Tehran, if he wants to fight so much.

  2. Libertarians for Trump....you can’t possibly support this guy now.

    1. Wasn’t Block’s main reason for supporting him something along the lines of “he’s less likely than Hillary to start World War 3”?

      Not looking so good now.

    2. @Evan Smiley IIRC, that WW3 was to begin against Russia (non-Islamic).

    3. Trump is an ass, and I've never been a "Libertarian for Trump", but the unprovable assertion that "Hillary would be better" is just as ridiculous. Hillary was a major factor in the Libya disaster, and she would have had motivation to prove "women are as tough or tougher than men", it could easily have been as disastrous as Trump has been, or more so.

Politics is not going to deliver freedom. It's time for TL to get that and stop trying to argue over which disaster would have been better.

    4. @Unknown

At least politics would win out and the Congress wouldn't coalesce so easily to a maniac Hillary. We're much worse off with a maniac Trump and a willing Congress. Not even up to debate at this point...

  3. I wish that the lunatics at the DNC were right, that Trump is Putin's puppet. That would be more reassuring.

  4. Trying to keep positive. Let me know if I am crazy.

    1. Keep friends close, enemies closer? Trump knows TV and knows despite how evil he is, TV and major papers will keep him so might as well co-opt him.
    2. Good cop, bad cop routine for NK and Iran?
    3. If Bolton is as idiotic as we know and follows his past, Trump can publicly shame and bury him for good with “You’re fired.”

  5. "bluster and deceit" for one audience, actual death and destruction and devastation for another. N. Korea rocket tests stoke the fears of Left coast Americans, while more targeted bombs mass murder innocents in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and others and incursions into Africa to a defeaning yawn. On Bolton, Rozeff's take [and Veterans for Peace's take] are good. https://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/bolton-trumps-bad-cop/

  6. Trump/ Hillary matter not. They do as they are told. CFR, Trilateral commission, Bilderberg, Central Banks, CIA, and Pentagon have as much or more say on policy. Presidents are puppets for the ignorant masses.

    1. This is why I am consistently amazed that intelligent people would expect anything different from what an un-elected power base has been doing with this country for decades!

It matters not who sits in the round room they will tow the line or end up like the Kennedy's of the world
