A Blistering Attack of Ayn Rand's Philosophy By Robert Reich

Berkeley Professor Robert Reich has released the below video attacking Ayn Rand's philosophy.

He absurdly links Donald Trump and other members of Trump's cabinet to the philosophy of Rand. Trump has no understanding of Rand. The only thing Trump realizes is that Rand is an important figure and he wants to be linked to her, but nothing in his actions suggest he is Randian. The same goes for some members of his cabinet.

Reich also links crony capitalism and even Bernie Madoff to Rand! And he distorts the nature of how the United States became an economic power.

But don't fear, read Rand. She anticipated Reich. Robert Reich is the despicable character Ellsworth Toohey in Rand's novel The Fountainhead. In the novel, she exposes the evil in such a man.

  1. I've always equated Dr. Robert Stadler from Atlas Shrugged to Alan Greenspan. The man who knew better but chose the wrong path. Maybe even a Darth Vader, but much less cool.

    1. Plus, you gotta love Darth Vader, the greatest evil guy ever, Greenspan not so much.

  2. What a statist tool. He keeps harping on about the "common good" without every specifying what it is, or who gets to decide. Nor does he raise the moral issue about coercing people to behave according to his precious "common good." His final line, "If there is no common good, there is no society," sounds like quotation from a fifth grade textbook. What he really means is "If we can't convince people there is a common good, there is no basis for the state."

  3. The point is he cannot conceive of society, or any commonality, advancing without the soft embrace or hard force of the state. It is the central organizing principle for him and all left/right progressives, hence their deep antipathy and distrust for nonstate institutions.

    1. Using Bruce Yandle's paradigm, is Reich the bootlegger (disingenuous parasite) or the baptist (per Nassim Taleb, "intellectual yet idiot")?

  4. He's right. We need a Department of Right and Wrong, Department of The Common Good, Department of The General welfare, Department of Values, Department of Anti-Profit, Department of Anti-Racism. We need a Salary Department, and Selfless-Jerk laws. Bernie/Reich III 2020 !!

  5. Great video, Bob!
In her "Virtue of SELFISHNESS", Rand proclaims that “The basic social principle of the Objectivist ethics is that just as life is an end in itself, so every living human being is an end in himself, not the means to the ends or the welfare of others— and, therefore, that man must live for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. To live for his own sake means that the achievement of his own happiness is man’s highest moral purpose.”(p. 23) According to "objectivists", fire-fighters, police, the military who RISK their lives for the greater COMMON GOOD are the greatest of fools, and medical people, educators, social-workers who DEDICATE their lives are almost as foolish. But Donald J. Trump is the ultimate objective human being! See my
