California Considers $1,000 Fine for Waiters Offering Unsolicited Plastic Straws

Reason magazine reports:
Ian Calderon wants restaurateurs to think long and hard before giving you a straw.

Calderon, the Democratic majority leader in California's lower house, has introduced a bill to stop sit-down restaurants from offering customers straws with their beverages unless they specifically request one. Under Calderon's law, a waiter who serves a drink with an unrequested straw in it would face up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

"We need to create awareness around the issue of one-time use plastic straws and its detrimental effects on our landfills, waterways, and oceans," Calderon explained in a press release.
I may have to do a youtube on this one, the economic idiocy surrounding waste is just remarkable.

These people are crazed power freaks who now want to control straw use!

I have a very good idea where we should stick some straws.

I miss the days when petty Marxian tyrants went ahead and murdered you on sight without bothering to insult your intelligence by pretending to be looking out for your well-being. They at least were more honest.

  3. CA, you deserve it for electing this guy. I hope you get much more tyranny than this. Enjoy your God-hating pagan Christless utopia.

    1. God drank wine without straws. Also, most "Christian" customs and holidays were originally pagan and were just rebranded including palm Sunday, ash Wednesday, Virgin birth, Easter, and santa and christmas.

But really? He's fighting against plastic straws? I bet antifa won't protest this nonsense because they are too busy trying to ban "hate speech" to look up fascism in the dictionary.

  4. Folks, criticising Calderon is obviously a "Straw Man" argument. But I must admit this is the last straw.
    Sorry.

  5. Of course it’s the waiting profession that is responsible for refuse disposal in California. Those damn waiters created the government dictated monopolies of waste management that all but obliterate the entrepreneurial creativity that could solve problems regarding human waste.

Here’s one solution that Boyan Slat started to develop when he was a high school student:

Actually there is a good chance that the problem that Slat is trying to solve would not exist if governments had not created waste management monopolies.
