New Poll: 49% of Public in Favor of Impeaching Trump

Public Policy Polling’s newest national poll finds a record level of support for
impeaching Donald Trump. 49% of voters support impeaching him, to 41% who are opposed to doing so. This marks the 6th month in a row the polling firm has found a plurality of voters in favor of impeaching Trump, and it’s the closest to a majority.

Trump’s approval rating has declined by a net 7 points in the last month. In September the firm found him at a -11 spread with 42% of voters approving of him to 53% who disapproved. Now he’s at -18 with 38% of voters approving of him to 56% who disapprove.

When it comes to hypothetical match ups for reelection in 2020. He trails Joe Biden by 18 at 56/38, Bernie Sanders by 15 at 53/38, Cory Booker by 11 at 49/38, Elizabeth Warren by 10 at 50/40, Kirsten Gillibrand by 10 at 48/38, Kamala Harris by 6 at 45/39, and Frederica Wilson by 3 at 42/39.

PPP generally polls for Democrats, but I have long considered them top-notch pollsters.

On an anecdotal basis, I recently had an interaction that supports the climbing desire to impeach Trump.

I had a meeting with a top exec at a very conservative Fortune 500 company.  He is a diehard Republican and was a staunch supporter of Trump once he won the primary.

For the first few months of the Trump presidency, he continued to be a Trump supporter. But I ran into him last week and the first thing he said to me was, "I hope they impeach Trump."

I think it is a combination of Trump buffoonery and the media continuing to beat up on him, but things don't look good for The Donald.

  1. For what? Jay-walking? These folks are bi-coastal lefty loons. If they ever deigned to do a poll in fly over country they would get 99% for jailing Hillary for real crimes. Robert, you need to get out of SF for a breather.

  2. Then it's time he dropped some bombs on some poor unsuspecting folks in the Middle East or Africa to get folks swooning again over his presidential grandeur.

    1. Groovy.

Why can't we impeach the presidency itself, rather than the occupant of Lew Rockwell's Oval Throne?

  3. What would they impeach him for specifically?

  4. My reading on this is that Trump has actually solidified his support over the last few months, as the initial barrage over Russia allegations has worn off and been exposed for the obvious ruse it is. Most people are realizing that the political claims that he is Hitler and/or "crazy" have been far overblown as life has mostly gone on without much incident - except for the mainstream news hysteria over him (and 90+% negative reporting). The polls have always been wrong on him and their methodology is highly suspect. The economic growth of 3% and rising (before tax cuts) is going to make it very hard to impeach him - congress and the press are MUCH less popular right now!

  5. The only poll on impeachment that would count would be one of the US House. I would LOVE to see the results on that one. I am not going to hold my breath on that one unless Trump either gets the US government into an unpopular war or the polling shows that a current US occupation war is actually noticed by We The People.

Until then I imagine the 12 month chart on Lockheed Martin Corporation will continue to trend up.

  6. Sure, impeach Trump and put a far less polarizing figure such as Pence in office so that he'll have the incumbency advantage. Just make sure you wait until Trump has served two full years so that he can run twice.
