Your Flu Shot is Going to be Particularly Useless This Year

The director of the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases writes in the New England Journal of Medicine that this season's vaccine may not be all that effective against the predominant circulating strain of the virus.

Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health wrote: "Influenza A (H3N2) viruses predominated in Australia, and the preliminary estimate of vaccine effectiveness against influenza A (H3N2) was only 10 percent."

So why is the statist Fauci spilling the truth about the uselessness of the flu vaccine?

He is preparing us for a bigger scam, a "universal' flu shot.

ABC 7 San Francisco reports:
Dr. Fauci said that the situation underscores the need for a more effective flu vaccine, ideally, one that is universal.
"There are some universal vaccines that are being tested this year and so I hope that we're going to see it soon. I think that we'll probably see it in my lifetime," Dr. Landon said.
In the last twenty-five years, I have gotten the flu only twice, the two years I got a flu shot.

No flu shot for me, again, this year.

The Trump Administration is Getting Worse on All Fronts

This morning I reported at EPJ that President Trump has nominated Marvin Goodfriend to be a governor at the Federal Reserve Board.

I can't think of a more dangerous person to name to the Board. He is a statist and interventionist of the first order and even as a wacko policy prescription to float the value of the money in your wallet (SEE: BREAKING Trump Nominates a Disturbing Anti-Gold, Pro-Negative Interest Rates, Economist to be a Fed Governor).

But this is only the start of the horrific news. The New York Times is reporting that Trump plans to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with Mike Pompeo.

Here's Kurt Nimmo's take:
But it gets even worse. NYT further reports that Pompeo, who is now Director of the CIA, will be replaced in that position by the crazed neocon warmonger, and friend of Bill Kristol, Tom Cotton.

Face it, the Deep State has captured Trump and he probably doesn't even know it.

I really, really hope that "Libertarians for Trump" has disbanded and I would be happy if all the former members join a monastery where they are prevented from any more political endorsements.

The Latest News From Libya and Decentralization: Migrants ‘Cooked Like Kebabs’

Decentralization may be a positive, but not always so.

Case in point the removal of strongman Muammar Gaddafi as ruler of Libya.

As with revolutions, coups and other forms of government change, it must always be asked: What will replace the old regime? Is it a move toward liberty or away from liberty?

Consider this report from Daily Caller on Libya which is certainly more decentralized than it was under Gaddafi:
A former Nigerian government official has come forward to tell the story of how Libyan slave traders captured African migrants, and cooked them “like kebabs.”

Project Veritas Videos Are Far From a Threat to the Washington Post

By Adam Dick

This week, Project Veritas posted two videos containing hidden camera footage of some Washington Post employees talking about the Post and its coverage of and editorializing on various matters. While Project Veritas presents the videos in packaging suggesting the videos are a great threat to the so-called American newspaper of record, the innocuous videos seem better suited to helping protect the Post from significant criticism.

Expectations are pumped up in the packaging of the two videos. The first video released is provocatively titled “BREAKING: Undercover Video Exposes Washington Post’s Hidden Agenda.” In his introduction to the second video, James O’Keefe of Project Veritas says that Project Veritas is an “existential threat” to the Post and “the entire media establishment.”

Has Kim Jong-un Set Up a 'Dead Hand' System to Attack the US If the US Attacks NK or Kills Him?

Given that North Korea has set off another ICBM test and President Trump, in response, told reporters that he will take care of things, here is a sobering thought from Daniel Ellsberg in a recent interview with Richard Perlstein for Esquire:
Daniel Ellsberg became a household name—and, according to Henry Kissinger, “the most dangerous man in America”—in 1971, when he leaked the Pentagon Papers, a massive study of how the U. S. blundered in Vietnam that Ellsberg himself had helped compile as a RAND Corporation analyst. But before he was a disillusioned expert on Vietnam, he was a disillusioned expert on America’s “command and control” structure for nuclear war. He tells the story in his new book, The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner (Bloomsbury), a groundbreaking and nightmare-inducing account of how the whole mad system works. Esquire spoke to him this fall, just after Donald Trump began tweeting threats to North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and just before Senator Bob Corker warned that the president might be leading us toward World War III...

DE: The war games we run against North Korea, which have been leaked, are always described as involving “decapitation.” And there have been news stories about the South Koreans developing a special “decapitation team.” Now, what can we expect? First, we can be virtually certain that Kim Jong Un has made provisions so that it would not paralyze his system just to kill him. That’s true of every nuclear state. But now let me add something that’s much less obvious. I’m pretty convinced—this is speculation, but it’s based on history and experience—that Kim has, in fact, also made provisions for massive retaliation if he is killed. A “dead hand” system.
And here is Ellsberg on the problem with Trump's response:
DE: The American people are being led to believe that they have to fear a surprise attack from Kim, which is crazy. It would be an act of self- annihilation if he did that. What he wants is a deterrent. Trump is threatening to do something crazy. Now, unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that it’s totally incredible. Both sides are cultivating an image of impulsivity and backing it up with a readiness to use massive force. It really does have a chance of blowing up, and that’s the theme of my book. We should not be talking about or threatening or preparing to go to war against Kim Jong Un any more than he should be preparing to go to war against us. What does that leave? Negotiation.
Trump is going to get us all killed. If Defense Secretary James Mattis is to be believed, this test shows that Kim can hit any spot on the planet.

Why Blue States Should Prepare for Social Justice Warriors Heading to Their States If Trump's Tax Reform Passes

I pointed this out earlier this month at EPJ: Red States May Suffer Blowback From Elimination of Local and State Tax Deductibility Designed to Hurt Blue States.

Zero Hedge now notesthat Goldman Sach has just come out with a report that estimates that the changes currently contemplated on the Senate bill could ultimately result in 2-4% of Manhattan's top earners relocating to lower taxing jurisdictions.

Keep in mind, these will be mostly crazed lefties WHO WILL BE POLITICALLY ACTIVE.

But it will be more than the mid-level rich, as I pointed out in the above mentioned post:
I'm told, for example, that the greater Denver, Colorado region is getting more wacko every day as more and more California residents move to the area. And I am told that high taxes and the high minimum wages in Blue state territories are driving white trash into parts of Idaho.
So Red Staters who hold the unusual view that state and local tax deductions on Federal tax forms are a "subsidy" to Blue Staters, may get their wish and see the SALT deductions eliminated---but it is only going to drive the Blue Staters into the Red states.

Nice job Red Staters, you have set the stage for the crazed social justice warriors to move to your own communities, and clamor for more government, but, hey, at least you won't be "subsiding" them from afar. They are going to be your new neighbors.

For an indication of what Red Staters will turn your state into in the long-term, read this.

Meredith Corporation has just announced that it has entered into a binding agreement to acquire all outstanding shares of Time Inc. for $18.50 per share in an all-cash transaction valued at $2.8 billion.

What My Father Knows: 100 Years. 100 Million Lives. Think Twice.

In 1988, my twenty-six-year-old father jumped off a train in the middle of Hungary with nothing but the clothes on his back. For the next two years, he fled an oppressive Romanian Communist regime that would kill him if they ever laid hands on him again.

My father ran from a government that beat, tortured, and brainwashed its citizens. His childhood friend disappeared after scrawling an insult about the dictator on the school bathroom wall. His neighbors starved to death from food rations designed to combat “obesity.” As the population dwindled, women were sent to the hospital every month to make sure they were getting pregnant.

My father’s escape journey eventually led him to

This is How They Celebrate in San Francisco

At the radical independent bookstore in San Francisco, City Lights Bookstore, they recognize the 1917 Russian October Revolution.

This sign appears in the main room of the bookstore, on the first floor:

I asked the clerk on duty at the front desk, less than 25 feet from the revolution sign, if the store carried R.J. Rummel's book, Death By Government. She punched on the computer keyboard and said:
Hmmm. no. Death by government, a lot of that is going on now.
She clearly had no idea that the book detailed the 60 million plus that were killed following the October Revolution that was celebrated in the main room.

I have no idea what she was referencing by government murders now, perhaps coppers killing black hoods, but I nodded and said to her that the store should carry the book that it covered a lot of the government killings going way back.

The Russian Witch Hunt Compared to the Original Salem Witch Hunt

Michael Rozeff is correct when he writes:
In terms of actually investigating anything worthwhile or accomplishing anything important to this nation, such as ridding us of crime, Robert Mueller and his Justice Department gang are a joke. They possess absolutely nothing that really matters in a criminal sense or is of any consequence to We the People. They are now reaching for obscure meetings, documents and e-mails. They are reaching for failures to report or report in a timely fashion. Their whole shtick is predicated on Russia having been some kind of enemy for years and years and years. Their premise is false, for they see evil via any contact with Russia, any lobbying for Russians or their views, reported or unreported. In their eyes, anything done by anyone that might conceivably have redounded to the credit of Russia or affected U.S. policy without making oneself out to be a foreign agent is worthy of investigation, indictment and prosecution.

This is a witch hunt, the aim being to wound, possibly mortally, the current Republican administration.
How does this compare to the original  Salem witch hunt?

Gödel , Morgenstern and Einstein on a Flaw in the U.S. Constitution

Jeffrey Kegler writes:
The story of Gödel's citizenship hearing had been much repeated over the years.  What was known was that on 5 December 1947, Kurt Gödel went to his citizenship hearing in Trenton, New Jersey.  The examiner was Judge Philip Forman.  As his witnesses, Gödel brought his two closest friends, Oskar Morgenstern and Albert Einstein. Gödel was granted citizenship, and took his oath on 2 April 1948.  Those were the reliably established facts.

Afterwards, Morgenstern told many people that he and Einstein had had their hands full preventing the brilliant, but politically naive, Gödel from derailing his citizenship chances.  No account directly from Morgenstern or anyone else at the hearing had survived, but hearsay versions circulated widely.  The hearsay versions show considerable variation, but their burden is something like the following:

Gödel, in his usual manner, had read extensively in preparing for the hearing.  In the course of his studies, Gödel decided that he had discovered a flaw in the U.S. Constitution -- a contradiction which would allow the U.S. to be turned into a dictatorship.  Gödel, usually quite reticent, seemed to feel a need to make this known.  Morgenstern and Einstein warned Gödel that it would be a disaster to confront his citizenship examiner with visions of a Constitutional flaw leading to an American dictatorship.

Arriving in Princeton, the trio had no idea who the examiner would be.  They happened to run into Judge Forman.  Forman was a friend of Einstein's -- when Einstein became a citizen, Forman had administered the oath.  How lucky this was became apparent almost immediately during the questioning.  Forman happened to remark how fortunate it was that the US was not a dictatorship, which Gödel took as a cue to explain his discovery.  A surprised Forman exchanged glances with Einstein and Morgenstern, cut Gödel off, and forced-marched the hearing through to a successful conclusion.
The History, and the Legend

Nobody seems to know what Gödel's proof was.

Note:  Morgenstern's write up of the affair has been discovered: here.

Trump Adds Five New Names to the 'Potential Supreme Court Nominee' List But Not Judge Napolitano

Judge Napolitano did not make Trump's latest potential Supreme Court nominee list

More disappointment for Libertarians for Trump (if there are any left).

The Economist reports:
Two of the new potential picks are 45-year-old, newly minted appeals-court judges Mr Trump recently appointed to the bench: Amy Coney Barrett of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and Kevin C. Newsom of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Newsom won Senate confirmation by a vote of 66-31 on August 1st. Judge Barrett had a tougher road: after confronting concerns that her Catholicism may interfere with her ability to fairly adjudicate cases, she was confirmed by a vote of 55-43 on October 31st.
These jurists are joined by two even younger Supreme Court hopefuls, both of whom began stints on state supreme courts earlier this year. Britt Grant, 39, a woman, serves on the Supreme Court of Georgia and Patrick Wyrick, 36, sits on the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Judge Wyrick was born in 1981 during the first Reagan administration, when Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the oldest sitting justice, was already 48. Judge Wyrick also clerked for the fifth and by far most experienced judge on Mr Trump’s freshened roster: Brett Kavanaugh, 52, an 11-year veteran of the Circuit Court for the District of Columbia.

The Vicious Tyrant That is Going to Replace Robert Mugabe

The new president of Zimbabwe?

Zimbabweans have been out in the streets celebrating the resignation of Robert Mugabe but, as I have pointed out, removing a leader is not enough, it must be considered who will replace the ousted leader.

Enter Zimbabwe’s former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

He is expected to be sworn in as president when he returns home from exile on Wednesday, ruling party ZANU-PF official Larry Mavhima told Reuters.

Here's CNN on Mnangagwa:
[C]ables, part of a huge cache leaked to whistleblowing website Wikileaks by US army soldier Chelsea Manning, paint a picture of a canny political operative, who has surfed the waves of Zimbabwean politics, navigating periods both in and outside of Mugabe's trusted inner circle.
They also hint at Mnangagwa's dark past. In late 2000, a cable written by Earl Irving, then a US diplomat in Harare, described Mnangagwa as "widely feared and despised throughout the country," warning he could be "an even more repressive leader" than Mugabe if he were to succeed him.
Fear of Mnangagwa stems from his position as Mugabe's enforcer and head of the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO), or secret police, and his alleged role in the 1983-84 massacres of the Ndebele ethnic group in Matabeleland, a region in Zimbabwe's southwest that was a center of political opposition to Mugabe's regime.
The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS), an international nonpartisan organization, estimate at least 20,000 civilians were killed by the CIO and the armed forces.
"Most of the dead were shot in public executions, often after being forced to dig their own graves in front of their family and fellow villagers," IAGS said in a 2011 report.
Kate Hoey, a British Labour MP who has campaigned for years to highlight oppression under the Mugabe regime, described Mnangagwa in a parliamentary debate last week as "probably the one person in Zimbabwe who inspires even greater terror than Mugabe."

Sexual Harassment, Libertarianism and the Civilized Man

By Robert Wenzel

Since each day now brings headlines of sexual harassment by men in power, it is time to put a libertarian perspective on sexual harassment.

First, it must be recognized that at its foundation libertarianism is based on the non-aggression principle.

Thus, prancing around naked in front of women, masturbating in front of them, asking for sexual pleasure from them, may make a man a high-powered sexual primitive, but

They Cheer in Zimbabwee...

.

..because the totalitarian Robert Mugabe has resigned from office.

BUT the question should always be asked before cheering takes place: Who will replace the old leader?

Replacement is not enough. It must be replacement that moves a country in the direction of liberty.

BuzzFeed reports:
National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster mocked President Trump’s intelligence at a private dinner with a powerful tech CEO, according to five sources with knowledge of the conversation.

Over a July dinner with Oracle CEO Safra Catz — who has been mentioned as a candidate for several potential administration jobs — McMaster bluntly trashed his boss, said the sources, four of whom told BuzzFeed News they heard about the exchange directly from Catz.
