As per the Kennedy hit: I would recommend "American Tabloid", "The Cool Six Thousand", "Blood's a Rover", by the great James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential). He presents these as fiction, as he doesn't have limitless investigative resources, but these reflect A LOT of intelligent research by a SUPERIOR mind into these matters. And what the heck, they are immensely entertaining.
