U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has been evacuated from a camp for displaced people in South Sudan because of a demonstrationt, CBS News is reporting.

Following Haley's evacuation, U.N. security guards fired tear gas to disperse the crowd of some 100 people.

The United Nations confirmed the incident with Haley, saying camp residents “became upset that she was not able to meet with them, due to time constraint”.

Earlier in the day, Haley
met with Sudanese President Salva Kirr to discuss the country's civil war, warning him to put an end to the violence or risk losing financial assistance.

Haley presented Kirr with a list of changes the United States expects South Sudan to address moving forward, including full and consistent access for aid workers in the country.

Since 2013, South Sudan has been embroiled in a deadly civil war. South Sudan became a state in 2011 and the United States has provided it with over $11 billion in assistance.

Haley is in the middle of a three-country African visit.

Recently, US troops were killed in Niger and also recently war-gamed a military exercise in West Africa,
