President Trump Pardons Convicted Criminal Joe Arpaio

Of all the people rotting in federal prisons, President Trump has exercised his power of presidential pardon for the first time to pardon a pretty nasty SOB.

Trump formally pardoned Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona Sheriff, on Friday.

The Atlantic provides the context:
[Arapio's] extreme treatment of prisoners and detainees drew widespread condemnation and allegations of racial bias. A 2011 Justice Department report concluded that Arpaio engaged in “unconstitutional policing” by systematically targeting Latinos for racial profiling. That same year, in response to a lawsuit, a federal judge ordered Arpaio to stop detaining and harassing residents of largely Latino neighborhoods. He ignored the order and continued to perform sweeps, claiming they were lawful.

The judge charged him with civil contempt in 2015 and criminal contempt, a misdemeanor offense, the following year. A federal court found him guilty in July. Trump’s pardon comes before that legal process against Arpaio had finished: His sentencing hearing was scheduled for October, where he faced a maximum of six months behind bars.
Arpaio also launched
the Tent City Jail for prisoners.

NPR explains:
Arpaio routinely pointed to the notorious, outdoor Tent City Jail he opened in the 1990s as a symbol of his "tough on crime" stance. Inmates live in tents through the sweltering Arizona summer heat and are issued old-fashioned striped prison jumpsuits and pink underwear.

And under Arapaio's watch a lot of real police work never got done.

From the Boston Globe:
Both cases were among more than 400 sex-crimes reported to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office during a three-year period ending in 2007 -- including dozens of alleged child molestations -- that were inadequately investigated and in some instances were not worked at all, according to current and former police officers familiar with the cases.

In El Mirage alone, where Arpaio's office was providing contract police services, officials discovered at least 32 reported child molestations -- with victims as young as 2 years old -- where the sheriff's office failed to follow through, even though suspects were known in all but six cases.
And there is this from Slate:
Those individuals unfortunate enough to languish in the county jails, which Arpaio’s office operated, suffered grievously. Arpaio’s deputies allegedly put Spanish-speaking inmates in solitary confinement to punish them for not understanding English. They also refused to accept requests for basic daily services that were written in Spanish and pressured Latino inmates into signing deportation forms. The vast majority of inmates in these jails were Latinos detained on suspicion of being undocumented. Jail staff regularly referred to Latino inmates as “wetbacks,” “Mexican bitches,” and “stupid Mexicans.” A federal judge ruled twice that Arpaio’s deputies unlawfully deprived detainees of food and medical care, and tortured inmates who were on psychotropic medication by locking them in unbearably hot solitary confinement cells, which caused an increased risk of heat-related illness. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed that these practices violated the Eighth Amendment’s bar on cruel and unusual punishment.

  1. Yeah, we can rely on the left wing media to reliably report on the antics of the good sheriff here.

If it were a leftist imprisoning KKK members, NPR, Boston Globe, and Slate would be okay with tent prisons and violations of civil liberties.

I'm kind of unsympathetic at this point. The illegal immigrant population needs to leave either through self deportation (which is already happening) or by legal means. I'm doubtful any of the libtards complaining would want any of those people in their mostly white neighborhood.

This is a good move by Trump.

    2. @The Lab Manager,

--- Yeah, we can rely on the left wing media to reliably report on the antics of the good sheriff here. ---

That's because no one else ia doing it.

--- I'm kind of unsympathetic at this point. ---

You're unsympathetic towards American citizens being harassed by Arpaio's goons only for looking like the Frito Bandito?

--- The illegal immigrant population needs to leave ---

      Lest they marry our daughters!

--- I'm doubtful any of the libtards complaining would want any of those people in their mostly white neighborhood. ---

That falls under the category "it's none of your business."

    3. So you're opposed to illegal immigration? Splendid. When do you leave?

    4. Francisco, as usual you show your ignorance. So are you okay with racist countries like Mexico kicking out people who are not Mexican citizens? Why won't Mexico take these precious creatures back and provide all those alleged economic benefits to their homeland? Surely Mexico wants America's productive ghetto black populations, right?

If you are an illegal person, whatever civil liberties are at the pleasure of this country. The US is way too generous with these people. Maybe your family needs to be run over by a van full of illegals being chased by ICE along with the medical bills that would ensue from an uninsured menace. By the way, plenty of Mexican Americans who don't want the TB infected hoards over here either.

When a libtard cries about illegals being mistreated but won't adopt one or put them in their home or neighborhood, it is my business because it negatively impacts my standard of living.

As for Native Americans, the ones left when Grant did his genocidal campaign had already wiped out others before them. Maybe they should have developed better technology to resist the Europeans.

    5. Where someone happens to have been born and whether they happen to have a permission slip from the US government is totally irrelevant. Trumpers' obsessions with these distinctions are just... queer.

You seem to have a problem with basic logic, TLM. My criticism of Trump's policies or Arpaio's crimes in no way can be construed as tacit acceptance of any other government's awful actions. At least, not by a reasonable person who enjoys a mind not restricted or soiled by bigotry. So please, stop showcasing your lack of perspective.

And my legal status keeps being none of your business.

  2. You have to be a convicted criminal to receive a pardon. There are many things wrong with Arpiao. I would recommend Will Grigg's articles. A sample is here https://freedominourtime.blogspot.com/2007/03/scum-also-rises.html

That said, it is clear that your headline is a biased attempt to be incendiary and falls flat. "Dog bites Man"... more at 11

  3. Hmm... you'd think that if Trump were trying to distance himself from the Nazis, he wouldn't use his first pardon on a jackbooted fascist thug...

    1. Reducing everything to a binary of nazi and not nazi is getting tedious.

Arpaio is an old fashioned american thug. The kind that would bust up beer barrels for the news reels and papers in the 1920s while taking cash to look the other way for the other gang's beer. He's the kind of cop most americans want, the one who selectively enforces the law on those bad people over there.

This is Trump embracing that traditional american "law and order" that got him elected.

    2. I mean, it was *slightly* tongue-in-cheek, but hyper-aggressive policing and overt racial targeting were absolutely features of the Nazi regime.

    3. Arpaio's actions in that regard don't rise to the level of nazi overt racial targeting but rather belong to the american tradition of kicking the newcomers around and attacking sources of lower priced labor.

Modern americans like to have many thousands of laws and then have men like Arpaio selectively enforce them. Nazis simply created laws with selective application.

Even in a tongue-in-cheek way Arpaio is a fully an american character.

  4. There is never an excuse to violate a person's rights. Following his discharge in 1954, Arpaio moved to Washington, D.C., and became a police officer, moving in 1957 to Las Vegas, Nevada. He served as a police officer in Las Vegas for six months before being appointed as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, which later became part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).[22] During his 25-year tenure with the DEA, he was stationed in Argentina, Turkey, and Mexico, and advanced through the ranks to the position of head of the DEA's Arizona branch.

During a three-year period ending in 2007, more than 400 sex crimes reported to Arpaio's office were inadequately investigated or not investigated at all. While providing police services for El Mirage, Arizona, the MCSO under Arpaio failed to follow through on at least 32 reported child molestations, even though the suspects were known in all but six cases. Many of the victims were children of illegal immigrants.[82][86]

    Justification for ignoring sex crimes

An internal memo written by one of the detectives assigned to the Morrison case blamed a high case load, saying the special victims unit had gone from five detectives to just three, and the detectives left were often called off their cases to investigate special assignments. These included a credit card fraud case involving the Arizona Diamondbacks and a mortgage fraud case in Arpaio's home city of Fountain Hills.[87]

When county supervisors provided more than $600,000 to fund six additional detective positions to investigate child abuse in fiscal 2007, none were added to the sex-crimes squad. Sheriff’s administrators concluded they had no idea where positions were added or what became of the money after it was added to the budget.

In 2004, Arpaio ordered all undocumented immigrants currently in jail to register for the Selective Service System.

Arpaio routinely abused pre-trial detainees at Maricopa County Jail by feeding them moldy bread, rotten fruit and other contaminated food, housing them in cells so hot as to endanger their health, denying them care for serious medical and mental health needs, and keeping them packed as tightly as sardines in holding cells for days at a time during intake.

  5. Vox Day:

Good on the God-Emperor. This sends an important signal to the pro-American movement.

    Vox Day comments:

    Well done President Trump,
May your enemies choke on it.

This pardon is also a much-needed poke in the eye for progtard pseudo-judges.

  7. No way Araipo lasts six months in prison, not with Obama's goons waiting for him there. This might be birth certificate related. It's not like Araipo is going to be elected Sheriff again if everything these commenters say is true. And if he is, it's like Mencken said - voters deserve the government they get good and hard.
