The minds of Social Justice Warriors are so fried that they don't even know when they are making a
bad situation worse. They leap from one SJW absurdity to a greater one.
Robert Lee, an ESPN sports broadcaster who is Asian-American, was pulled from calling the University of Virginia home opener in Charlottesville, VA against William and Mary on Sept. 2 due to his having the same name as Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
Initially, ESPN made a statement that could only be viewed as sound by a mentally fried Cultural Marxist but it was pretty bland.
Since that statement was laughed at by everyone whose brain registers more activity than the brain of Caroline Kennedy, the president of ESPN has stepped into the fray himself.
He now has pretty much indicated that he believes his broadcaster is a snowflake whose feelings might get hurt by tweets. The Hill reports (my bold):
The president of ESPN has defended the sports network’s decision to remove an announcer named Robert Lee from coverage of the upcoming University of Virginia football game.
In an internal memo, obtained by CNN, President John Skipper said “there was never any concern” that Lee’s name “would offend anyone watching the Charlottesville game. The concern, Skipper explained, was for Lee and potential social media heckling.
“Among our Charlotte production staff there was a question as to whether – in these divisive times – Robert’s assignment might create a distraction, or even worse, expose him to social hectoring and trolling,” Skipper said in the memo.
Yes, the network that broadcasts sports events pitting athletes against athletes where there are champions and those who face, as ABC would put it, "the agony of defeat,"is proclaiming it has to protect its broadcasters from what would be asinine tweets.
