Rand Paul: Do Not Let Elliott Abrams Anywhere Near the State Department

Super neocon Elliott Abrams is meeting with President Donald Trump today. He is under consideration for the position of Deputy Secretary of State.

Senator Rand Paul has fired a warning shot toward Trump regarding the potential nomination.

In an op-ed, today, Rand writes:
I hope against hope that the rumors are wrong and that President Donald Trump will not open the State Department door to the neocons. Crack the door to admit Elliott Abrams and the neocons will scurry in by the hundreds.

Neoconservative interventionists have had us at perpetual war for 25 years. While President Trump has repeatedly stated his belief that the Iraq War was a mistake, the neocons (all of them Never-Trumpers) continue to maintain that the Iraq and Libyan Wars were brilliant ideas. These are the same people who think we must blow up half the Middle East, then rebuild it and police it for decades.

They’re wrong and they should not be given a voice in this administration.

Rand, who is on the Senate Foreign Relations committee, has also stated that he would vote in committee against an Abarms nomination. Unless a Democrat on the committee flips to support Abrams, a Rand vote against Abrams would block a positive vote coming out of the committee.

It is possible in a bold move that Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell could still call for a full Senate vote without the blessing of the Foreign Relations committee but unlikely.

Blocking Abrams would be a heroic act by Rand but it would do little to eliminate the full contingent of bloodthirsty around Trump, there are many. Abrams is particularly evil but the Trump administration is filled with evil.

It should be noted that Trump's Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, is in favor of the Abrams nomination. That alone says a lot.

  1. Tillerson was recommended by Rice and Gates, he's a Texas Oilman. This all points to one thing: Bushie.

  2. Well now I go from a Rand disappointment guy to a Rand -o - phile again.
Maybe I just expect too much from Ron's son. He is objectively far and away the 'best' Senator.
