Block vs. Wenzel on Supporting Donald Trump

The following email exchange took place between Dr. Walter Block and me.

Dear Bob:

Re this: Walter Block: I Will Continue to Be a Supporter of Donald Trump

I continue to support Donald, pretty much no matter what he does, well, within reason, since in my estimation, Hillary would have been worse, far worse.

Best regards,

Walter

Hi Walter,

Hillary lost, why do you need to continue to support all the Trump proposed policies that violate libertarian principles?

Best,

Bob

Dear Bob:

Only vis a vis Hillary. I’m still euphoric about his victory over her. Obviously, I’ll oppose Donald’s $10/hour min wage (as opposed to Hillary’s $15), his attack on free trade, his support for social security, welfare, the fed, all the bad stuff he favors, etc.

Best regards,

Walter

Hi Walter,

Euphoira over a victory is different from support going forward.

So I take you are not supporting Trump going forward?

---

Dear Bob:

I’m gonna call ‘em as I sees ‘em. For example, if he supports a $10 min wag, I’ll oppose it, and say Hillary would have done worse. If he speaks out against free trade, I’ll oppose him, but make the point that Hillary was no free trader. If he pulls US troops out of S. Korea, Japan, Germany, anywhere else, I’ll support him. If he sends US troops in to fight ISIS, I’ll oppose him. After about a month, when I’m over my euphoria, I’ll treat him like any other president: mainly, attacking him since he’ll mainly (but, I hope, not solely, like Hillary) be up to no good, and Hillary will no longer be relevant. But, she’s certainly relevant nowadays. The snowflakes are whining and crying for safe spaces and trigger warnings, etc. The private schools in NYC are supplying dogs for patting to high school students, saddended by Hillary’s loss. College kids all over the country are still protesting, saying “He’s not my president.” When he’s under such onslaught, before he’s even done anything, my natural inclination is to defend him. Suppose he appoints Bolton to something important in international relations, say, secretary of state. I’m not going to attack Trump for that. Who knows, maybe Bolton has become a Ron Paulian in foreign policy (J). I’ll wait until Bolton actually DOES something evil, and I fully expect him to do. THEN I’ll criticize him, and Trump for supporting him. If the Donald appoints Andrew Napolitano to the supreme court, I’ll jump for joy. I don’t expect that, but, it is within the realm of possibility, whereas Hillary might have appointed Barack Obama to the supreme court!

Ok, ok, I agree with you. The prognostication doesn’t look good. The neo cons seem to be in the ascendancy. But there’s one think I think we can all trust Donald on: political correcteness. If he becomes PC, I’ll eat my MAGA hat, the one I flaunted at this debate: http://www.thesohoforum.org/

Best regards,

Walter

  1. I agree with Dr Block that Mr Trump hasn't even done anything yet, so no reason to jump on the bashing bandwagon. I'm more concerned about Obama's final days than Trump's transition. And if it's true he's not taking a presidential salary, that's one positive step. Meanwhile, Obama is taking a last trip around the world at tax payer expense.

  2. Why are Block and Rockwell tacitly supporting this NAP violating clown?

    1. Block? Because of Trump's supposed anti-war bona fides.

Lew? I thought he was just trolling the Republi-rats but maybe he was, in reality, exited about the prospect of a wall meant to keep everyone safe from Mexican butt-sex.

  3. I can't say that I agree with Block on all of his points, but I can understand how someone who has been persecuted by the PC police the way he has might feel some affinity for Trump.

What nonsense. He is and always will be an authoritarian president just like all of them. It is perfectly fine to claim he seems to be better at least than Hillary (which i agree with). But that is not the same as actually defending him because a bunch of whiny spoiled brats are saying "he's not my president". Yes he is. But so Hillary Clinton would have been the president of Trump supporters had she won. It is not a thing of preference but a fact because nobody can ignore the realities of the system of democracy. Why would an anarchist even care that snowflakes are shouting that Trump is not their president, except for denoting the inherent hypocrisy in this statement vis-a-vis their alleged dedication to democracy?

Just because commies had an onslaught on Hitler, and Nazis on commies, does not mean you have to "defend" either, even if somehow you manage to find ways of claiming one is the least of two evils.

Personally, i mock and criticize all the anti-Trumpites, but not to defend Trump. Simply because of their own wretched hypocrisy and politics. Despite all that, Trump is what he is, and therefore doesn't get any defense from me EXCEPT when he happens to deserve it.

This quasi-veneration of politicians and presidents by what are supposedly hardcore libertarians is just gross to me.
