Paul Krugman Attacks Libertarian Party Platform

Up until now, I had not read any of the Libertarian Party platform.

I just assumed that it was as wishy-washy on libertarianism as Gary Johnson but it actually appears very good based on what the Hillary Clinton propagandistr, Paul Krugman, reports.

He wrote Monday in his column at The New York Times:
How many people have actually read the Libertarian platform? But if you’re thinking of voting Johnson, you really should. It’s a remarkable document.

As I said, it calls for abolition of the income tax and the privatization of almost everything the government does, including education. “We would restore authority to parents to determine the education of their children, without interference from government.” And if parents don’t want their children educated, or want them indoctrinated in a cult, or put them to work in a sweatshop instead of learning to read? Not our problem.

What really struck me, however, was what the platform says about the environment. It opposes any kind of regulation; instead, it argues that we can rely on the courts. Is a giant corporation poisoning the air you breathe or the water you drink? Just sue: “Where damages can be proven and quantified in a court of law, restitution to the injured parties must be required.”
This is great stuff, I'm glad Krugman brought it up in The Times.

If anyone wants to learn more about this thinking and how it would work, I recommend For a New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto  by Murray Rothbard. If you have been pretty much stuck in the world of Paul Krugman amd The Times, this will be an eye opener.

  1. The platform is pretty solid, and with a state, we can actually enforce it.

    1. When a private security guard is pointing a gun at you, are you going to tell him "Sorry dude, I don't recognize your authority!" and be on your way?

  2. What kind of libertarian wants to use the state to impose libertarianism?

  3. Paul Krugman prefers a world where a company like BP can ruin multiple states coastlines and continue to operate. He also enjoys when the EPA is responsible for destroying the environment itself (Colorado Gold King Mine). As long as there is zero real accountability.....Krugman is onboard

  4. The LP Platform is much better than their presidential candidate.

It includes this gem, along with many others:

Since governments, when instituted, must not violate individual rights, we oppose all interference by government in the areas of voluntary and contractual relations among individuals. People should not be forced to sacrifice their lives and property for the benefit of others. They should be left free by government to deal with one another as free traders; and the resultant economic system, the only one compatible with the protection of individual rights, is the free market.
