Ron Paul Sets Gary Johnson Straight: How Libertarianism Should Really Be Presented

Asked by Fox Business host Kennedy on Thursday what he would recommend were he advising Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson, Ron Paul replied, “I would want him to be more of an outspoken champion of liberty and be crisp and clear and not make people wonder about it.”

Paul, who ran for president as the Libertarian Party nominee in 1988 before his 2008 and 2012 Republican presidential primary runs, also discusses in the interview Johnson’s often-repeated self-description as a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. “I don’t consider myself one-half conservative and one-half liberal; I think those are moderates,” states Paul. Instead, Paul says that he thinks “you have to be precise on what the nonaggression principle is all about and apply it consistently because it is such a wonderful opportunity to take that principle and apply it to economic and social issues equally.”
