Fox Business to Host Stossel Show Libertarian Party Presidential Debate

John Stossel is reportedly planning to host a nationally-televised Libertarian Party presidential primary debate on his show on Fox Business Network, possibly in March.
An announcement posted Tuesday on 2016 Libertarian presidential candidate and former Republican New Mexico governor Gary Johnson’s official Tumblr page read:
The Gary Johnson 2016 campaign has confirmed with Fox Business’s Stossel that Gov. Johnson will be delighted to participate in a televised debate among Libertarian Party presidential candidates, hopefully in March. We will of course leave the formal announcement of the debate details and date to the Stossel show, but want to express our gratitude to Mr. Stossel for working to find a date for this important event that will not disrupt any planned Libertarian Party activities and that is actually doable for all the candidates who are involved.
The Libertarian Party’s official website lists twelve 2016 presidential candidates. In addition to Johnson, the party’s candidates currently include  Austin,Petersen, and John McAfee, Marc Allen Feldman, Cecil Ince, Steve Kerbel, Darryl Perry, Derrick Michael Reid, Jack Robinson Jr., Rhett Smith, Shawna Joy Sterling, and Joy Waymire.

The Libertarian Party’s delegates will select its nominee at its national convention, which is set to take place on May 26-30 in Orlando, Florida.
I wonder if there is actually a libertarian in the group. I see a couple that aren't for sure.

  1. Johnson, McAfee and Peterson are definitely not, not sure about the rest. In addition Im skeptical on why Fox would even allow Stossel to do such a thing.

    1. FOX is probably hoping that libertarians will vote by association. I doubt many of them who vote would vote republican. Will they be showing it in the 2am time slot?

    3. Good point Bob. If Derrick Michael Reid's website is any indication (I've looked only at his out and only because of it's name) the world will indeed see a bunch of dorks.

  2. Any of them, absolutely any of them, would be better than a president El Trumpo.

Honestly I can't think of anyone less libertarian than a guy who wants to close the borders to trade. I just heard El Trumpo is calling for a boycott against Apple. So any of those candidates above would be better for liberty by many orders of magnitude than El Trumpo.

    1. None of them have any chance whatsoever of becoming president. These people only give the masses a confused view of what libertarianism is.

I agree that Trump is terrible on trade (so are the others), and as evidenced by his comments about Apple he is no civil libertarian (neither are the others, and Trump is better than his Republican counterparts on the drug war), and he has said stupid things about the Iran deal (as have all the Republicans). Out of all the candidates however, Trump arguably has the best foreign policy and the best tax plan, and these are the two most important issues for a libertarian.

But perhaps you have a certain bias, SeƱor Torres.

    2. @john

How is he better on the Drug War? His wall isn't going to stop the flow of drugs and I haven't seen anything in which he is actualy going to stop the enforcement of federal drug laws.

    3. Here is a recent video of Trump saying he is in favor of medical marijuana and that marijuana legalization should be left to the states.

He has said in the past that the best way to stop drug use is to legalize drugs and use the proceeds to educate the public about drug use-not perfect, but at least he understands the failure of the drug war. These are atypical stances he has taken-and admirable in my opinion- given that personally he is a teetotaler.

Of course he is not an anarcho-capitalist libertarian, but I think it's safe to say that he is the best Republican on the drug war.

  3. Jack Robinson Jr. wants to create bank accounts for all newborns and have the Govt deposit $2,000 a year into the bank account until the person turns 25. Everyone gets $50,000 plus accumulated interest free and clear at age 25. He has a similar scheme for healthcare. Fits right in at the absurdly named Libertarian Party.

  4. thank for dropping this story. I am definitely tired of struggling to find relevant and intelligent commentary on this subject. Everyone nowadays seem to go to extremes to either drive home their viewpoint or suggest that everybody else in the globe is wrong. thank for your concise and relevant insight.
